Forums - Sony - Why do you believe Sony will do a pricecut in 2009?...

I don't believe in a pricedrop in Q1 or Q2 or Q3 or even Q4 in 2009

Why?

Sony needs to show profit.

Why the hell would you go even deeper in the red, if sony as a whole is weak....?

It's called a fire sale....and they need one. Both for their PS3 brand...as well as Blu-Ray.

There WILL be a $100 price cut before next holiday.

I Agree with Super Etecoon. SONY have no choice

Sony will reduce the price of the PS3 in 2009 at least $50 and probably $100 ...

Since their last price reduction in 2007 Sony (should have) reduced the manufacturing cost of the PS3 by a pretty decent margin with the introduction of the 65nm and 45nm manufacturing process on both the CPU and GPU, and there should have been noticeable reductions in the cost of producing the Blu-Ray drive.

They should be able to reach breaking equal at 350 or even 300$ price points at the ned of 2009.

No they wont. They need profitability in these times. While the world fumbles around in the dark during this recession companies like Sony need to ride the bumps, not make bigger ones.

It's true that they are aiming for a profit but they have made significant cost reductions on the ps3 and besides they do want to compete.
I will be shocked if they don't do a $50 price cut at the very least.

It will definitely be a 2009 price cut.

As HappySquirrel said, they haven't price cut since introducing the 65/65, and the upcoming 45/45 means that production costs will dip even further.

I'd be surprised if they didn't price cut in 2009.

JP would be the easiest, and most likely since the Yen is so strong, so I'd expect that sometime early in the year. I would expect a EU one in the middle of the year, because it hasn't been price cut since it's been released there, and then America would be last.

They have to do one.A 100 price cut would put them ahead by a good margin ,a 50 one would keep them competitive .

diomedes1976. Answer this. What is more important to Sony, profitability or marketshare?
If its marketshare we will see a reduction. If it's profits then we won't.
