^ so again, what about violence? there are no filters on the amount of brutality you can dish out in a game. why so?

Because if I'm a father and my little Billy plays God of War III, I'm not actually afraid he's going to wear wolf head gloves and rip people apart with them. I am afraid, however, that if he plays some interactive sex thing, he'll grow up into a wispy-mustachioed porn creep who never grows up and moves out of my goddamn house already!

well, what about the violence in grand theft auto? many news stories have picked up random acts of carnage in the street presumably because of teenagers just having had a session of gta. lots of games have a whole lot of realism to their violence, and will have an influence on children to be homicidal maniacs.

what about that recent news story of a 16 year old boy shooting his mother in the head because of Halo 3? that's because of violence in games and it totally influences kids.

so again, why is violence uncensored, and sex is?

Because we prefer to have our kids trying to kill us instead of trying to fuck us.

I mean, it's clearly a double standard. But I think it exists for the same reason that, if kids run around playing war or cowboys-and-indians, you don't worry about it. If they're playing doctor... you do.

What the hell?

You didn't answer the question though.

I object to that picture. They didn't have fake titties back then!

But I did.

Movies are considered acceptable for adults, games are still considered the domain of children.

Movies aren't interactive, games are.

People would prefer kids to imitate violence over sex.

This thread makes me want to play Indigo Prophecy (Fahrenheit).

So.. having sex is worse than killing?

hmmm...

wait, that's stupid.

It happened to comics as well

Don't you know, Sex is apparently more dangerous then weapons, knifes, bombs will ever be........

it's those damn STDs man... and yes, even video game characters can get STDs. Imagine if Kratos dies after having too much unprotected sex with all those fake breasted Greek sluts over the years.

Maybe so, but surely you know this? Violence has been a part of games forever. Even though it wasn't very explicit before, we've always been blowing shit up (Combat, Galaga, etc.). It's just accepted. If you take a game that's completely inoffensive, like Bomberman, keep the same gameplay and cutesy aesthetics but change the bombs to penises that splatter semen on your opponents, you'll have a shitstorm on your hands. It's not much more explicit, but it is infinitely more controversial, because, yes, sex is worse than killing.
