This is not to prove or disprove global warming, but if you're only convinced because of Gore's movie, you might want to see this....

Its an institute, they are proven to be research groups that work for a specific political agenda.

Why should i believe this and not Al gore? Explain to me why, especially considering that most government's and scientists believe the IPCC and the UN.

Like i said, ok so do nothing then. Good luck defending your country from the millions of starving people who need to leave their country over drought and food supply problems in 50 yrs.

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Fact and fiction.

There are facts behind global warming, but what we know, presented by the media, is nothing like reality.

“I am a skeptic…Global warming has become a new religion.” - Nobel Prize Winner for Physics, Ivar Giaever.

“Since I am no longer affiliated with any organization nor receiving any funding, I can speak quite frankly….As a scientist I remain skeptical.” - Atmospheric Scientist Dr. Joanne Simpson, the first woman in the world to receive a PhD in meteorology and formerly of NASA who has authored more than 190 studies and has been called “among the most preeminent scientists of the last 100 years.”

Warming fears are the “worst scientific scandal in the history…When people come to know what the truth is, they will feel deceived by science and scientists.” - UN IPCC Japanese Scientist Dr. Kiminori Itoh, an award-winning PhD environmental physical chemist.

“The IPCC has actually become a closed circuit; it doesn’t listen to others. It doesn’t have open minds… I am really amazed that the Nobel Peace Prize has been given on scientifically incorrect conclusions by people who are not geologists,” - Indian geologist Dr. Arun D. Ahluwalia at Punjab University and a board member of the UN-supported International Year of the Planet.

“The models and forecasts of the UN IPCC "are incorrect because they only are based on mathematical models and presented results at scenarios that do not include, for example, solar activity.” - Victor Manuel Velasco Herrera, a researcher at the Institute of Geophysics of the National Autonomous University of Mexico

“It is a blatant lie put forth in the media that makes it seem there is only a fringe of scientists who don’t buy into anthropogenic global warming.” - U.S Government Atmospheric Scientist Stanley B. Goldenberg of the Hurricane Research Division of NOAA.

“Even doubling or tripling the amount of carbon dioxide will virtually have little impact, as water vapour and water condensed on particles as clouds dominate the worldwide scene and always will.” – . Geoffrey G. Duffy, a professor in the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering of the University of Auckland, NZ.

“After reading [UN IPCC chairman] Pachauri's asinine comment [comparing skeptics to] Flat Earthers, it's hard to remain quiet.” - Climate statistician Dr. William M. Briggs, who specializes in the statistics of forecast evaluation, serves on the American Meteorological Society's Probability and Statistics Committee and is an Associate Editor of Monthly Weather Review.

“For how many years must the planet cool before we begin to understand that the planet is not warming? For how many years must cooling go on?" - Geologist Dr. David Gee the chairman of the science committee of the 2008 International Geological Congress who has authored 130 plus peer reviewed papers, and is currently at Uppsala University in Sweden.

“Gore prompted me to start delving into the science again and I quickly found myself solidly in the skeptic camp…Climate models can at best be useful for explaining climate changes after the fact.” - Meteorologist Hajo Smit of Holland, who reversed his belief in man-made warming to become a skeptic, is a former member of the Dutch UN IPCC committee.

“Many [scientists] are now searching for a way to back out quietly (from promoting warming fears), without having their professional careers ruined.” - Atmospheric physicist James A. Peden, formerly of the Space Research and Coordination Center in Pittsburgh.

“Creating an ideology pegged to carbon dioxide is a dangerous nonsense…The present alarm on climate change is an instrument of social control, a pretext for major businesses and political battle. It became an ideology, which is concerning.” - Environmental Scientist Professor Delgado Domingos of Portugal, the founder of the Numerical Weather Forecast group, has more than 150 published articles.

“CO2 emissions make absolutely no difference one way or another….Every scientist knows this, but it doesn’t pay to say so…Global warming, as a political vehicle, keeps Europeans in the driver’s seat and developing nations walking barefoot.” - Dr. Takeda Kunihiko, vice-chancellor of the Institute of Science and Technology Research at Chubu University in Japan.

“The [global warming] scaremongering has its justification in the fact that it is something that generates funds.” - Award-winning Paleontologist Dr. Eduardo Tonni, of the Committee for Scientific Research in Buenos Aires and head of the Paleontology Department at the University of La Plata

Fantastic. This is what I mean by dissenting opinions on global warming. Absoulty fantastic find, happysqurriel.

Speaking of media, where did you find these quotes?

Look, wev'e just released a planned 5% cut by 2020 in Australia. Most people, 55% in one poll believe its not enough, in fact its weak and pathetic. When your proven wrong it will be too late and your children (and yourselves) will have excessive food, energy and secuirity costs to try and deal with the ramifications of drought, water rising and ice melting.

And to those people who are skeptics, if you have children or are thinking of having them consider what the potential impacts could be on their lives.

Its worse than terrorism.

And if you dont know anything about the science, or don't believe what other scientists know either, why don't you look at some mountains yourself. Go up to canada and look at some glaciers. Go to Antarctica or some shit.

If all ice in the Hymillayas melts in the next 40 yrs, as is predicted, over 2 billion people will have insufficient water to grow rice. 2 billion people is a big problem, its not a joke anymore is it.

Yes, so we should all try to cut pollution, hurting economies and people across the world, and watch the Earth continue to warm because that's what you think. I'm not going to listen to a former chair of Harvard who was ousted because of his politically incorrect ideas, I'm going to look at some mountains and form my own theory based on that.

Few people argue the validity of climate change. What many respected scientists are arguing is that it's a natural cycle.

So, in your perfect world, what happens if we drastically change our consumption, build alternative energies, fight pollution at every corner, and the planet continues to warm? At that point, you're the one who fucked our children by dedicating massive resources to something that didn't affect a damned thing in the end.

Find out what is causing it. Give dissenting scientists the money to prove their own findings. GET DOWN TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS.

Politicizing science is no different than what astronomers fought since the organization of the Catholic church... and look at how far that shit set us back as a functional race.

I'm wondering why you believe Al Gore over them... or many of the geologists, astronomers, meteorologists, etc. who constantly scream "WE JUST DON'T HAVE ENOUGH DATA!" in favor of a knee-jerk reaction that might cause more problems down the line.

I'm not saying this isn't man-made. I'm not saying it isn't a natural cycle. All I'm saying is that, up until this point, the only scientists who have been given the money to find out have been on one side of the camp.

Give money to the other side. Maybe then we'll find the "Inconvenient Truth" behind all of this. Because, from my college courses, bad things will start happening when oceans start letting go of their methane... Bad things. Let's find out why this is happening before we start snipe-hunting. At least then we'll be able to try to either fight it or adapt to it.

The world isnt really warming, the global climate is just changing. The warm and cold seasons have been pushed up about a month and areas that had tons of rain dont and areas which never get rain are starting to.

Global warming will go down as the biggest scientific fraud in history.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

Which is probably why the world community started using the term 'Climate Change' instead of Global Warming. Which is what I thought this thread was about. Climate Change is defiantely fact (mainly becuase it's a natural occurance in nature). The issue is of the socallled rapid change, more so rapid then proven by the ice cores thing they do to look at changes in the earth atmosphere and temperature thingy...I don't know what it's called.

Then any scientists questioning it, along side that there are 15 times as many not questioning it. Glaciers are the biggest proof you need something is going on, they are melting at a rate not monitored before and only in the last 20 years but again the scientists and people who think it's not real are not questioning something is changing but the causes, it is a natural occurance or man made?

Hmm, pie.

We haven't montored glacial melting for very long, hence "at a rate not monitored before"
Greenland was green around 1000 AD, not so green anymore. The world isn't turning abnormaly warm, it's just stopped being so abnormaly cold.

Again, I'm not argueing Global Warming, that phrase is dead. It was my mistake to assume Global Warming was Climate Change. Climate change it happening currently but it's the causes that are the issue here.

And on glaciers: http://www.csmonitor.com/2007/0103/p07s02-sten.html

Key parts:

"Recent studies reveal that the Gangotri, which forms a mass of ice about 18 miles long, is retreating at a rate of more than 100 feet a year."

And

"While the Gangotri has been retreating since measurements began in 1842, the rate of retreat, which was around 62 feet per year between 1935 and 1971, has almost doubled."

It's always retreated, that's fine but why the increased rate in the lat 30 years?

There are many reasons why, i am a firm believer that the lack of a huge volcanic eruption is partly to blame as it usually has the effect of cooling the atmosphere as a whole (or so I've heard) and the last one we had was in 1991, Mount Pinatubo (category 6).

Hmm, pie.
