Forums - Sales Discussion - poor Electronic Arts...

Gamasutra publishes every month an in-depth look at NPD numbers, and the article for november's NPD includes LTD sales for several EA properties.

Across all platforms, in the United States, Madden has sold almost 4 million units. Burnout Paradise, 600K. Dead Space, 500k. Mirror's Edge, 200k.

For how long will EA focus on high-quality new IP's before returning to the yearly-iteration business model Activision is now so succesfully exploiting? Initially, EA made the shift because it's franchises were losing power and generating less revenue as the years passed and it was pointed out that they needed to focus in finding new powerful franchises. For how long can EA afford to seek out new big names to fill covers with? Incidentally, what will happen to EA if it can't create new powerful franchises? are they gonna end up as a small-time publisher?

Now, the question is... will Activision's properties suffer the same dwindling process it eventually inflicted EA's franchises?

Judging from the trailer, EA's Dante's Inferno is barely even related to Dante's Inferno.

Seems pretty crappy.

Activision has Blizzard, who know how to work existing IP's in a way that don't demand any form of "evolution" in order to generate revenue.

They should have their science field trip include Blizzards HQ the next time they send their design team out, they could learn something about how to make a game over how to make entertainment.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.
