Forums - Nintendo - VGChartz forum reviews

We've all heard the frases "I could have written a better review than that" or "I only trust user-reviews, they're less biased".

Here's your chance (no g!) to get both those in one thread!

Where would it be better to get gaming user-reviews, than on the gaming site that has the perhaps most intelligent members?

So go ahead, and write a review. It doesn't matter if it has already been reviewed by someone earlier on, or if it is very old.

You can score it in whatever way you want, but you should explain what your scores mean if that isn't automatically clear. Rating a game Y out of Z doesn't say a lot to most people (I'd say it was either 4/100 or 96/100 though).

Any length and score is fine, but remember that the purpose is to tell other people about the game. Don't rate all the games 10/10 or A+. Also, shorter than 10 sentences isn't recommended.

Another thing, make it very clear which game you are reviewing. Most people won't bother to read all, and could easily skip past yours otherwise.

As a final note (before the PS), you can ask a question to any review at any time. Or generally, there aren't any restrictions in this thread, apart from the VGChartz forum rules, and normal courtesy.

PS: I'm limiting this to games on Nintendo machines (and preferably Wii/DS, so people can buy the games if they find them interesting), as otherwise it could easily turn into a flame war. I hope non-Nintendo owners understand this, and don't feel offended by it.

Okay, I have a review.

The Godfather: Blackhand Edition (Wii)

Written by: Oyvoyvoyv

A game based on a movie, made by Electronic Arts? That doesn't sound so good. Well surprisingly enough - it is (good)!

The game starts with a cutscene. You see a baker, his wife and his son, outside their bakery. The baker has just made a horrible mistake - he refused to pay tribute to the Barzinis. The father is attacked by the Barzinis, and even though he manages to kill a few of them, he is killed, by the Barzini don, with his own son watching. As it turns out, the baker was a friend of Don Vito Corleone, and had some sort of other connection to the Corleones. The baker's wife makes Vito promise to look after her son.

15, or so, years pass. You get a screen, and can change your character's appearance. It works quite well actually, and if you're skilled, you can get him to look awesome.

Now, your mother (the baker's wife) goes to Don Corleone on his daughters wedding day. She asks him to fulfill his promise, and save her son, who has recently come into some trouble with some bad guys.

Luca Brasi comes and saves you, and now your mission is to increase your ranks in the Corleone family. You do this, by

A. Following the main mission.

Has a lot of the key Godfather parts in it, but also some new and original plots in here. Very good story, with varying missions. A lot of sneaking around, with some strategy and such. Not repetitive in any way. This should last you a good 12-15 hours.

B. Assassinations.

Tessio, a Corleone Capo, gives you missions to kill people who make trouble for the Corleones. The missions include a "special bonus" if you manage to kill people in the right way. Sometimes you have to make it look like an accident, sometimes they must dissapear without a trace, and sometimes you've simply got to kill 'em by a headshot. This should take you 6-8 hours to finish.

C. Favours.

Can be essentially anything. Differs from scaring off some punks who are making trouble, to blowing up Corleone car with weapons, as the cops have found it. ~ 5-7 hours long.

But, to be perfectly frank, that isn't even the best parts about the game. Capturing enemy clubs/warehouses/rackets/etc. is perhaps even more fun. There are just 8 racket models, 8 club models and 2 warehouse models, but there are over 80 places to capture, so you'll be going through very equally looking places. Still, as the enemies are placed differently, it doesn't really feel like that.

You're also going to be stealing some enemy drug trucks, taking them back to one of your safehouses.

Do you like killing people in brutal, unnecessary ways? Then this is the game for you. Strangle, shoot bullets up his behind (that sometimes exit through his head or chest), or kick him in the nose. A lot of ways to kill your enemies, and the Wiimote is used excellently.

Your weapons include melee weapons (which there are 12 of, but you can only have 1 at a time), and 3 pistol types, a shotgun, and a tommygun. You also have bombs, dynamite and molotovs.

For aiming, you can either press +, to enter "free aim mode" and you can run and shoot, or you can lock on enemies. If you lock on enemies, you still have to manually aim at their head with the IR.

You can have AI allies, but of course you have to pay them. The AI is actually pretty clever, and can actually teach you a thing or two.

The game is set in 1940s New York, and the area you're in is just enourmous, ala the size of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, but with even more stuff in each area.

To sum the game up, it is an evolved version of Grand Theft Auto on the Playstation 2 and Xbox, but rather than take it in the direction of Grand Theft Auto IV, it follows the cruel and brutal ways of the last generation installments.
