I just stumbled about this great little blog post about how gaming failed to impress in 2008, and the author is not just talking about the Wii.

I have to agree. It seems this year will be remembered in which the mega hyped games failed to deliver, not enough innovative content across all consoles and very few releases by the end of the year.

Though, I am sure many will disagree with the author. I know people are head over heels in love with Fallout 3 despite a terrible ending. Little Big Planet has already gathered a niche fanbase. Left 4 Dead is killing in multiplayer games and even without any mega hyped killer apps the Wii is still selling.

And in all fairness, the author does sound as if she didn't care much for these games and is using some general complaints to call 2008 a bad year for gaming.

But what do YOU think?

I've just read the beginning of the article and then I stopped, pretty lame writing IMO but well that's not the point. 2008 has been a great year, probably one of the best since the new millenium. Of course, you'll find people saying "this game wasn't as good as expected and blablabla" but let's face it: GTAIV, MGSIV, Mario kart, SSMB, Gran turismo 5P, valkyria chronicles, lbp, tomb raider, prince of persia, bioshock, motorstorm 2, no more heroes and many many other release.

Twas a f**** good year (excepted for handhelds ... ok).

Eh....well, I read the whole thing, and to be honest....it just sounded like a teenage girl who didn't know what she was talking about.

...to be more specific...she never played Fallout 3, used the most critical generalizations about the years biggest games(even though she hasn't played most of them) and fell into that age old trap of, "Well I haven't actually played it, but we can use general wisdom and anecdotal evidence of my unnamed friends to determine that some opinions probably are facts."

It's just a blog from one of those hardly-core gamers that got a non-writing job at a gaming site because they had a degree in journalism and a Nintendo DS. Simply because her name is associated with 1up, people clutter around her blog like a reviewer wrote it, and like she somehow has a more inciteful perspective on the gaming industry than say...me.

The article is filled with marginalizationist argument, most of which don't hold water.

That said, it's not really an "article" but a blog, so I can't really criticize someone's expressing of their opinion.

I guess the thing that pisses me off more is our general lacidasical bordom that causes us to pick up on every little meaningless piece of fluff and tout it as if it were evidence of our beliefs. That's internet 2.0 for you.

...but I guess I could just degrade into a conversation more easily accepted by the masses and inform you all that:

I disagee with this article, I find the assumptions ignorant, and the assertions invalid. No quantitative evidence would agree with the supposed findings brought to our attention here, and in fact, all quantitative evidence would strongly disagree with them. The article is likely written with a rose-tinted glasses approach to previous years of gaming, and is due to the author's personal waning interest in the hobby that I, and most of my compatriots here, enjoy. I would give it a thumbs down.

this year was not as good as 2007 but it was overall a good year for gaming, loads of great games were released.
