Forums - Nintendo - wii modchips what do ppl use them for?

Alright here is my analogy on piracy.. dont mind little details just try to get the point..

Imagine a baker (developer) spending years trying to make a perfect recipe for his bread.. finally he makes his perfect recipe and sells em.. then Jesus comes in and buys one loaf of bread.. now our hypothetical Jesus(uploader to a torrent site or seeder), puts it in a basket then gives it to people and the basket doesnt run out of bread.. which means all the people who followed him got to eat the bread the baker perfected, without paying..

now if you were a bystander or the baker, can you accuse the people who ate the bread, stealing?. can you throw them to jail?.
i am against piracy because i know developers are just trying to make a living, but to me piracy is not considered stealing..

But if our Hypothetical Jesus puts the bread in the basket and sells em......
he needs to get shot..

ps. i think most modders are pirates.. and most modders are found in third world countries.
i remember in the Philippines, consoles sold their are already modded right out of the box..

Yeah, Nintendo seems to be really hating Europe... Elite Beat Agents appeared in stores 8 months after release in US... Thanks god DS doesn't have troubles with regions

It looks like my little "Policy" turned into a lovely debate. I just want to say somethings on a more basic view point.

The first time I played Chrono Trigger, was on an emulator, before the 2000's even arrived. I loved the game. Absolutely adored it. A few years later, I found out my friend had the re-released game on the PS1. I played it, and loved it even more since it had all those extras (the load time I could go without though).

Do you want to know what I'll be doing when they inevitably put it on the VC? I'll be buying it, and playing through that damn great title again.

I ask you this:

How does that equate to a loss of a sale? I would have NEVER played the game had it not been for that emulator, nor would I have come to appreciate such a pure gem and work of art in gaming history.

Because I "pirated" or "stole", whatever you want to call it, many things have happened.

- I now avidly support Square by buying their products
- I experienced a timeless game, and show appreciation to those who made it
- I'll be buying the game as soon as I possible can in a fashion in which the parent company makes a profit.

One case of "stealing" made me pour in tons of money to that company in the long run because I KNOW they can produce quality games that I'd want to buy.

You dastardly knave! Don't go seeking forgiveness now, the long arm of the law will root out your villainous kind!

On a serious note, region limitations are the best reason to mod, ever. Personally, I wouldn't want to risk damaging my box, but if a devastatingly awesome title was released overseas with no prospective NA release, I might consider it.

I think the bad thing about piracy is that once a person starts down that road it's extremely hard to get off of it. And I rarely if ever see a pirate buy a game "they really like", I think that's just an excuse and a way for pirates to make themselves feel better and justify what they're doing.

Yeah, these guys want people to believe pirating software is wonderful and nobody suffers, but eventually a price always has to be paid. Keep pirating PC games, and watch as the PC market disappears slowly into the night, and awesome video cards stop getting made because there aren't any games that need them.

Why do you think id software went to consoles? To supplement it's PC income? Or to slowly switch to consoles exclusively?

And to those of you pissed off that your freeloader doesn't work: Haha, suckers! Nintendo gotcha!

I'm getting a modchip later this year if a Freeloader doesn't come out soon enough. Only intend to play imported NTSC games, because Nintendo appears to hate us Europeans with quite a passion. Been hesitating quite a bit, since it's possible they'd release a new system "update" that either stops the chip from working, or bricks the console alltogether.

Can't rightly say I've ever even considered pirating console games. That's what the PC is for. =P

Me too. If I can find someone who can solder I will buy it. A Cyclowiz V2 is the best right now. Much better for us PAL users since all NTSC games are compatible unlike WiiKey's really really small list of compatible NTSC titles.

It is a hardcore game through and through. You will get your ass kicked by bosses. You will be stumped by the sometimes complex, but never overbearing, exploration.

I would say its more blockbusters fault and stores like ebgames, plus blockbuster has that no late fee thing going on so i can rent a game for about a month before i return it with no extra charge, the same with those online sites.

I don´t know where you get your info Androo but it´s impossible to play a NTSC game on a Cyclowiz that doesn´t run on a Wiikey, its not a matter of the chip code but of the way the game was programed. If you have evidence that shows otherwhise please share it.

And yes I have a Wiikey... does this mean I don´t buy any games ??? I bought about 90% of all Zeld titles ever made including TP, I have every Mario Kart and that won´t change, Galaxy is going to get bought as well, I just don´t like waiting for ever till a game arrives, some don´t even come out here ever, thats BS, I´m just as american as everyone living in the U.S., do you guys know what a horror some translations are ??? it killes me, and yes I´ve downloaded games... like Spiderman 3 and Transformers... did I make tham fail or where they crap from the beggining??? Did the movie the Hulk fail because of downloads or would people have gone to the movie if it actually was any good ???

I made this industry big, now I have the right to destroy it ......JK   :)

Some people will pirate anything no matter what but most people pay......for quality.

See? how does it need the WiiKey if it is a standalone mod chip??

Ok androo, sorry but I know a little something about Modchips, I´m no expert (but I´ve talked to many) I know BS when I see it, first of, I know the Cyclowiz is a standalone modchip, but it does the same as the Wiikey, it only mods the drive nothing else, so they can do 100% the same when it comes to playing backups and imports. Second, don´t post instructions of how to mod a console here, nobody will be happy about that.

And now for the big three:) Please Androo go to the official site of the Cyclowiz: http://www.cyclopswiz.com/

you will find a chart that was made to show how much better the Cyclowiz is compared the Wiikey(sacasm), and eventhough it leaves out some features the Wiikey has that the Cyclowiz lacks you will see that under: "Runs Wii imporst" it says PARTIALLY for all of them.

So check your facts my friend. The Wiikey and the Cyclowiz do the same stuff with only differences in the extras, the NTSC import can only be partially fixed with software, for full NTSC support you´ll need a real modchip not a drive modchip. And its about 60%-80% that work, FOR ALL CHIPS, and thats the way it will stay untill a real modchip sees the light of day.

I don´t want to get cranky here but I don´t like it when people put down stuff without knowing even half the facts, I assume stuff alot myself but when I check my facts and see I was wrong I´ll eat my crow without hesitation. I don´t know where you get your info but if I where you I´d have a serious talk with them.

Thanks ED!! Sorry for being such a nOOb and yes I ate my crow without hesitation lol.

Anyway do you have any idea where can I get a 100% compatible chip?
