Forums - Sales - The Sales Cross Over: It's Real. What are the implications industry wide?

@celine

Thanks for the data even though your source links are vague, those numbers do look familiar, I'd never seen the FY07 for Sony, that's some major losses. Does that include Blu Ray royalties?

@stranne

So it's pretty much your personal opinion on the subject, which is cool, but it's not evidence.

I can vouch for Celines financial figures. I keep track of them myself. Most of the info can be found on the corporate web sites and their quarterly/annual financial PR reports.

 Do those numbers for Sony include Blu Ray royalties or would those numbers go on another division (maybe their movie division)?

No, games division only. Sony reports indivudal figures for each corporate segment.

EDIT: LOL, I decided to reply to this part of your post and here you were trying to get that specific info at the same time.

 I think if they can't turn at least one profitable year in the 360 lifetime, they'll go 3rd party.

 lol It's all good, but interesting though, Sony's movie division should see big profit if everything goes smooth and Blu Ray wins out, but at the same time, Sony's game division might post back to back FY losses for the 1st time ever.

I'm not real positive if Blu Ray falls under Sony Pictures division or Sony electronics division. It may have both given the software for one division and the hardware for the other.

Both have been feast or famine the past few years. One quarter would be incredible and the next would take a major loss. Both have been overall profitable the past few years though.

You are correct in that the Games division will most likely see its first consecutive fiscal loss.

Opinions backed up by trends in financials, yes. You can't make predicitions 100% free of opinions.

What is your evidence that the PS3's expensive hardware is, and will remain, more costly than the 360's expensive warranty replacement program?

Unless you can provide this evidence, your previous post is a prediction based purely on opinion and not fact.

[edit:  I should have said "your previous post is a prediction predicated purely on opinion and not proven points."  Alliteration FTW!]
