I think it's the PS2 that holds it back, not BD or Price

The only way to ditch BD would be to make a PS3 based on downloading games, but it would have to include a huge hard drive, at least 500 GB. I wonder how much the BD drive costs nowadays as opposed to one of these hard drives.

@ reask:
They are not cutting prices because they are going for profit too. They even said that in 2009 they'd be more aggressive. Even if they now can't, because of downturn or whatever, they are still gunning for that profit, so whatever they do, they will want to recoup whatever they can get, and that is NOT going to happen if they abandon the PS3 now.
They'll get 17 million angry customers, not exactly the image they are hoping for.
Even if they only sell lowly (compared to the other two), they'll keep at it, just to make sure some money is earned back, and possibly to keep a flow of "Hey, we're still here"-products out there in the gaming market.
However, if they have not learned from this experience for their (possible) PS4 (whenever it may arrive), then they'll scratch it after that. They are not going to abandon ship when it's just rough at sea.
Blu-Rays will not take off because of ( Vehicle DvD Players )
I mean people are going to buy a Blu-ray and a DvD of the same movie? So they can watch it at home and on a road trip?
I got Dark Knight on Blu-Ray with it's Digital Download, and it was almost imposable to get the movie to play on my LG dare, I had to come up with Rocket Science type stuff... lame...
Sony needs to offer more Bundled Blu-Ray and DvD movie Combo's like they did when the HD war started.

I actually think they will go back to dvd format like the 360.
OK they might take flak for a while but with brand name and possibly a few sweet exclusives it wont really matter.
Remember Sony still have 120 million PS2 owners who might sign up much quicker to a cheaper console that can match the 360.
@reask: That can't work, it wouldn't be compatible with PS3's current titles.

Wow the hate never stops. I am impressed at the stamina and determination shown by the PS3 haters. These doom threads have been going on non stop every day for the last couple of months.
I do believe one thing. If Sony manages to make a recovery against the 360 next year the counter flaming will be quite something.

Oh I know that but I did say I reckon they are going to dump the PS3.
That would mean no more games for it or maybe the option of a add on for existing owners.
Also fully BC for PS 1 and 2.

What? You mean a downgrade if Blu Ray isn't standard. Why would anyone buy it?

Oh Sony fans can't be liking all this. Taste of the Wii fans daily life when they used to get everything about their console dying or ruining the industry. Ain't fun when your on the other side of the stick is it.
