PS2 contniues to outsell PS3 most weeks.  Would Sony be better off discontniuing the PS2 so people have to purchase a PS3 to play PS2 games.  Obviously it would increase PS3 sales some, but would it do more bad then good for Sony?  The numbers for PS2+PS3 are not so bad when compared to GC+Wii....

Make your prediction for last month with PS2 sales > PS3 sales.  This doesn't count clearance sale at EOL with major price drop, unless you also state what month that is...

In topic: The ps2 was meant for 5 years, they didnt expect it to be out in 2007, they will probably discontinue it around 2008.

i would assume you're right about the fact it would actually increase ps3 sales if they discontinue the ps2..but by how much?

They shouldn't discontinue it until the PS3 is at mass market prices, or around 250$.

Discontinuing it now is pointless because those people will buy Wiis instead, or even 360s. They need to keep having people buy PS2s instead of getting one of the next gen competitors so that they won't buy a console again for a while and by the time they are gonna buy again, they have a PS3 that is much lower in price and more appealing.

PS2 is selling at 130, theres a good 400 difference PS2 does not affect PS3 sales.

Obviosly there are months where the PS3 has sales that push it's numbers above PS2.  I was asking when the last month with PS2 > PS3 will be, not first month which already happened...  If you think it will not happen this month or any future month, then predict that..

That would be a shocking idea and would cost Sony a lot of money. Sony want to keep the PS2 going as long as possible, that will help users jump to the PS3 down the track. If they discontinue now then Sony can say goodbye to a lot of sales and revenue.

Sony needs the PS2 to compensate for the loses the PS3 is making.

Killing the PS2 would help sales of the PS3... but I tend to agree with the majority here that the price delta is too great to do it now, especially with the wii and 360 costing significantly less than the PS3. It would help PS3 sales, but would help wii and 360 sales too...

I surprised at the lack of opinions as to when PS3 sales will consistantly be higher than PS2 sales in America.
