Forums - Sales Discussion - Sony sold 1 MILLION PS3 in November!

Sullla,

hum,

last year it was just after a price drop
now we are 1 year after the price drop

last year, Xbox360 (the big foe playing on direct competition) was more expensive
this year, it received a price drop and is now the cheapiest console this gen

last year, we were not in recession
this year, we are (and media are even pushing it by focusing on it)

(I still see how Wii/360 are selling much better than PS3, but I also see PS3 is doing not bad considering the price)

if u haven't noticed we were in a recession this time last year too...go google government admits recession has been going on since 2007 if u dont believe me.

No offense, Sony can only blame themselves. Not enough good games to justify the price. Yes I understand we are in an ecomonic crisis right now and that the 360 has 90% ( i think it's more like 60% cuz of the consant cancellations and coming out a yuear earlier but wutever) of the same games the ps3 has, but understand this in general:

I'm goin to the store holiday season looking for a cheap good graphics console(aka I'm a naive consumer) and I see the wii the 360, the ps3, and the ps2.

PS2: already had it,dont want it cuz intelligent enough to know that it's last gen, dont want it period.

Wii: Looks last gen ( I said naive consumer not stupid),sold out, or already have it.

PS3, Too expensive period, Too expensive to have games that are on other cheaper console with mostly same graphics,Still developing might wait another year.

360: RROD ( though it's becoming less and less likely with the newer models),don't like Microsoft( yes there are those people),"know that u need a hdd to get online, pay 50 dollars a year for live"

now I quoted the last part for a reason, unless the guys read the fine print, the wont know that last part and most likely buy an arcade which is the cheapest of them all of the current gen....kno if u are naive consumer...what would u pick...recession or not?

 A little bit more...

VGChartz Hardware data for the period 08th Nov 2008 to 29th Nov 2008:

Console Wii X360
Total
3,385,932
1,815,180

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

Lol, amazing thread, great OP.

I'll admit that I was felled to that trap also.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

The Official Huge Monster Hunter Thread:

The Hunt Begins 4/20/2010 =D

Impressive? Think again.

Same period.

Wii: 3385K

X360: 1815K

(PsP:  1122K)

(DS: 4173K)

Wheee! The Ps3 had 16.4% market share for November! Hooray!

Oh, revenue?

Let's see.

Wii: HW = 275 dollars each (WW) = 930M

Wii SW = 50 dollars each (WW) = 895M

Total Wii = ~ 1 billion 825Million dollars

X360 HW = 275 dollars each (?) (WW) = 499M

X360 SW = 60 dollars each (WW) = 903M

Total X360 = ~ 1402K

Ps3 HW = 450 dollars each (WW) = 459M

Ps3 SW = 60 dollars each (WW) = 546M

Total Ps3: ~ 1005M

Market share (revenue)

Wii: 43.1%

X360: 33.1%

Ps3: 23.7%

So not very well there either.

Note: This is a bit pro 360/Ps3 and anti Wii. Really, prices are probably about equal, due to Wii's SW prices (on Nintendo games) hardly dropping.

That is VGChartz LONGEST review. And it's NOT Cute Kitten DS

If we take this stance, it's impossible to make any comparisons about anything:

Did the Gamecube sell well for its price?

How about the Neo-Geo? Best-selling $700 console ever!

What about the Gizmondo? It sold great for its price! Never mind that it lost so much money that it destroyed its parent company...

I think the Phantom was the best-selling console ever for one that was never released. It sold infinitely well for its price! [/sarcasm]

Stop making BS excuses. Bottom line: holiday sales should never decrease for any healthy platform entering its third holiday season. I dare you to find any successful video game platform that saw sales go DOWN in the third holiday. Because I've run the numbers on a ton of them, and I can't find any. N64, XBox, Gamecube - they all went up in their third holiday. The only one I can think of that went down was Dreamcast, and that's because the whole damn thing was discontinued earlier that year.

I would argue the Neo Geo sold well.

It wasn't originally supposed to be a home console.  It was originally just supposed to be for rentals in videostores and hotels.

But the people pushed for it to be sold in homes.

I'd argue any home console sales were just playing with house money.
