Forums - Gaming Discussion - EA: "Mirror's edge 2 will be different!"

I'm so happy that there's going to be a sequel for the Mirror's Edge. The downloadable content announced for January looks pretty cool too, I love the time trials tracks.

For the sequel, they need to fix the combat (like being able to disarm guard after a punch or a kick), make the story mode longer and give you some alternative routes or optional objectives.

Very good stuff from the industries whipping boy. Remember how half a year ago everyone was hating on EA, but as of right now they're probably the most consistent group when it comes to frequency and quality of their games.

No, they'll add more sex to make it sexier, starting by exaggerating the heroine in exactly the way they refused to do for the first game.

They'll also add more shootan, of course, and they'll probably shift more towards generic brown-and-gray photorealism in the artistic style. Basically, they'll try to "correct" all the "problems" that caused the first one to fail, and end up with a generic shooter in the process.

Complexity is not depth. Machismo is not maturity. Obsession is not dedication. Tedium is not challenge. Support gaming: support the Wii.

What do I hate about modern gaming? I hate tedium replacing challenge, complexity replacing depth, and domination replacing entertainment. I hate the outsourcing of mechanics to physics textbooks, art direction to photocopiers, and story to cheap Hollywood screenwriters. I hate the confusion of obsession with dedication, style with substance, new with gimmicky, old with obsolete, new with evolutionary, and old with time-tested.
There is much to hate about modern gaming. That is why I support the Wii.

I loved the Mirror's Edge Demo!

It just launched at the wrong time.. I'll pick it up in a couple months when I'm done with my currents games.

Hopefully Mirror's Edge 2 will get an August/Sept launch before all the usual big hitters

EA picked the worst time to launch these 2 titles

I need to get my hands on the first one.

I find a sequel unlikely since EA is looking to cut back on the number of titles due to heavy losses. Dead Space might get one.

Well hopefully they've read the reviews from the critics.. no one said to add a sexier heroin, or more guns, or more brown

Issues with the first one are (from what I've read) - no free roaming, combat needs tweaking, longer story mode

I'd also love to see a multiplayer.. coop campaign, 4 player races, things like that would of sold me on the original on day one!
