Forums - Sony - Home - Biggest ever Playstation software cash cow?

it's not like it's a secret that you're anti-sony for no reason..

on topic:
I can't really see Home being a cash cow. Yeah, it'll make them a few million a year, but not very much in the grand scheme of things. When the install base grows a bit bigger, it might make a decent amount for them, but only time will tell. Micro-transactions are nice, but not when no one has any money to 'micro-transact' (yeah not a word I know..)

So in other words, you agree with me but you still couldn't resist adding in a pointless jab. The report button is looking really tempting.

@Nj5

I agree with you that paying for basics is a turn off and might put people off of home.RPG asked something and i responded to RPG and not your post.

let's be honest you even did some calculations for sony going bankrupt,,,,don't you think that's a bit extreme?

it's like you enjoy watching sony going down for some reason.

@SpartanFX:

1- I never said Sony is going bankrupt.
2- Even if I had, that has nothing to do with this thread and you were the only one bringing it up.
3- If you keep trying to derail this perfectly good thread I'll report you.

I don't think home will be a cash cow, I think it will be bad for sony and the PS3. I like xboxlive as it is closed and there is no danager of anything getting uploaded or bad content. I let my 8 year old play on xboxlive with her friends, I would never let her play on home. All it will take is one or two stories about pedophiles that have moved from Second life to Home and that will bring all the good work down. There has already been conserns raised about this in the media and this is not good news for Sony. They will have to prove to me that it is safe for kids and after second life that is going to be hard.

There is currently a minimum age of 18 required for Home.  I wouldn't let my 8 year old on xbox live or PSN without supervision.  Same goes for Home if they remove the age requirement.

On XBL there are alot of parent controls so they don't get content or games that are not sutable for them. Also the enviroment is not open, they can add a friend without parent consent. Also where does it say XBL is for over 18, thats rubbish as it is on all consoles, which would mean nobody ouder 18 could play any games or turn it on.

@Nj5

RPG asked and off topic question and i answered him,,,anyways let's move on .

OT:

Do you guys think Sony will assign a team for updating home? (i mean like the London studios or the PlayStation network team)

Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

I'm sure there's a team assigned to fix home when it goes sorta kinda live tomorrow.

Does anyone seriously think this launch will go well? Past experience surely points to it not going swimmingly.

I doubt they'll have a whole studio working on it, but probably a big part of the development team will still be working on it. Making new content and improvements and fixing bugs.

The network is another story, there must be quite a lot of administrators involved to manage all the servers and server-side applications. Even more than the PSN already required.

I think you should be aware that young people are at risk on any internet service.  They would be no more likely to run into bad people on PSN, Home, or Xbox Live regardless of parental controls.

"Youtube user, self professed pedophile, and worthless human being Myidisphat has freely, and gleefully, admitted to using Xbox Live as a hunting ground to find and befriend young boys. "

Note: The closed beta of Home has an age requirement, I have no knowledge of age minimums for the open beta or full release.

Thanks for the input, Jeff.

Don't threaten me.  Ever.  If you're going to say it, do it, otherwise don't say anything at all.  You might scare someone else around here saying that - but it's not going to be me.

@Phrancheyez: If you think you did something wrong, just report yourself or better yet stop derailing the thread. I couldn't care less whether you're scared or not, I just don't like to be the guy running to tell mommy. I prefer talking to people directly.
