Um, did nobody read the actual report besides cord/LTNK?
Reading comprehension FTL.
And this means in no way that HDTV and HD gaming is gonna be gaining ground in Japan. According to DisplaySearch data from 2006(!), Japan already had 64% HDTV penetration.
If they were that high that long ago and yet the SD Wii is crushing the HD consoles, its obvious that its not a factor.

I mean, good for the burners selling well, but this doesn't necessarily mean the whole format is doing better. And presenting it as such just fools people.
A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

our bestbuy recieved over 400 copies of Dark Knight on Blu-ray, the same amount on DVD.
it will be a very interesting movie to check % wise for DVD vs blu-ray
Soriku (Feb 10/08): In 5 years the PS3/360 will be dead.

I think this actually shows the opposite of what it's being presented as by the OP. Blu-Ray recorders going to 50% but not players(I don't know the number...sorry) shows that the format is still too expensive for the average Japanese consumer but is desired, thus pirated movies for the win!
The fact that it's recorders means however that PS3 are not included as they can't record Blue Rays...
Please correct me If I am wrong but blu-ray burners can obviously play as well as record blu-ray movies right??
Though it would be interesting to see the % of market share that blu-ray movies have compared to dvd movies in Japan.

Of course. Same with DVD burners and movies. They're just a lot more expensive than dedicated players, so are more of a niche.
