Forums - Gaming - So, what's the deal with Go Nintendo and VGchartz?

NOTE: Sorry if this is a taboo topic here. Mods, feel free to lock if it gets out of control

Even though I am a newbie I've been following the site for a year now. I like to check up on the latest sales  as well as enjoy some of the editorials.

But I am curious about something...

Go Nintendo refuses to post any data from VGchartz and pretty much denies the existence of the site whenever sales data is mentioned. The only thing I heard is that they used some un-official data from the site that turned out to be wrong. Since then Go Nintendo refuses to touch any data that comes from this site.

So what is going on? What was that data that annoyed the guys at Go Nintendo? I heard the hate is so bad that its member started saying that VGchartz was founded by a guy who had a dubious reputation at another site and was banned for apparently releasing bogus sales data.

I don't know about you, but I think the data here is accurate. The official sales data comes very close to what is mentioned here,  so I don't know why the site has so much infamy at Go Nintendo.

i'm not sure what caused that initial problem which gonintendo constantly refers to as "we have been burned by vgchartz in the past", however they have lightened up in recent months, posting vgchartz data (but with a disclaimer that it might not be accurate) for smaller games

jealousy. this site provides free data that is fairly accurate.

Go Nintendo posts VGChartz data sometimes but rarely. Anyway, I've seen stories (like the one I did on the Kirby clouds in the sky over places named Kirby) and reviews (I think of the 1st Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People) from VGChartz on Go Nintendo.

Go Nintendo gets most of its news from reader suggestions so if you think something is newsworthy and should be on Go Nintendo, send an email.

GoNintendo is just making sure it doesn't post VGChartz as fact, which it technically isn't, and is trying to cover their ass.

GoNintendo actually has started showing more of VGC data, and RMC doesn't say "the data could be inaccurate" anymore.

BUMP!

Sorry for bumping this old thread, but it seems that Go Nintendo decided to be at peace with VG chartz and have decided to quote any sales as not final.

You can read the article here:

One of the comments, however, say that the founder of this site was banned from GAF from pulling numbers out of nowhere. Can someone PLEASE explain me this?

Probably jealousy. This site is growing at a rapid rate, and provides a great service for free, with pretty accurate sales figures.

In your face Go Nintendo
