Forums - Sony - Killzone = Halokiller ?

I believe... that one of the reason that Halo became famous was partially on the account of Killzone 's fall-flat-on-face-hype.

Articles were raving about how it was going to beat Halo and a majority of the gaming community and those casuals outside it believed the words of this new killer franchise headed for PS2... so when judgement day came it turned out to be disaster. Horrendous game that was not even close of reaching those high expectations.

And considering how it had gained the rep as a halo-killer some people I can imagine thought: " fuck this game sucks... whats this Halo and why was it suppose to beast Halo? is that good?"

The fiasco that became Killzone somewhat elevated Halo along with KZ's own quality sacrifice. And that greatly added benefit to the Halo franchise.

In my opinion? Killzone won't be a Halo equvalent... it will be a different beast of its own.

Halo is too big a franchise to be killed by the sequel to the original "Halo killer" that for the most part bombed, even if Killzone 2 turns out to be a good game.

Killzone didn't bomb at all, it just didn't sell as much as halo.

Why is Halo a game so spoken by the US people?
Aren't there other FPS more popular such as Counter Strike and Unreal Tournament?

Halo was already deeply entrenched as a major franchise by the time Killzone's "Halo-killer" hype started rolling around. If anything, that hype may have been what sunk KZ, since it did not live up to that promise as far as quality went. As far sales, I remember it made a minor appearance in the NPD charts for it's release month, never to be seen again. I'm surprised it sold as well as it did.

In the US, Halo could well be the most popular FPS franchise right now. The series is hugely popular here.

Kilzone 2 is not a Halokiller, the problem lies with Sony fanboys that are so depressed by the sales of their console that they are trying to hail every new upcoming PS3 game (that has some extent of Hype behind it) as one of the biggest games that world has even seen.

We've seen some individuals claiming that LBP is a Mario Killer, That R2 is the best shooter ever, That Haze will be awesome, and that wii has no Games. And Killzone is just another "Wait until" title that PS3 fanboys are going on about it. It wont match Halo saleswise, it wont much it in terms of popularity and i really really doubt that it will match Halo or CoD in terms of quality (first Killzone is average).

I dont know how people expect K2 to become such a hit, when even huge franchises do not sell that much on PS3, i hope it's a damn good game but why hype it up so early and compare to such big name.

You have just proven my point. The Sony fans keep saying that Killzone 2 is NOT a halo killer, yet I keep hearing people say that "PS3 fans keep calling Killzone 2 a Halo killer."

Funny because in my post i havent said "PS3 fans keep calling Killzone 2 a halo killer" i've just stated that this game is hyped insanely just like other Sony exclusive because Sony fans are waiting for game that could have mega sales, and even if not exactly calls it a "hallo killer". that amount of hype just increases expectations for K2.

killzone 2 AI looks really awful (almost like killzone AI), the Halo 3's AI was one of the best, but graphically Killzone 2 looks superior even than MGS4, that will be its hard point, and about multiplayer it could be good, but hardly it will be better than Halo 3's, so...
Multiplayer: Halo 3
Graphics: Killzone 2
Gameplay: (dunno, probably Halo...)
AI: Halo 3
Sound: (probably Killzone 2)
History: (no one, both suck :P)
Value: Halo 3
So, who kills whom?? XDDDD

My console sales prediction for the end of 2009?? [made January 2 2009]
PS3: 30M -- XBox 360: 40M -- Wii: 72M -- PSP: 65M -- NDS: 138M

Halo can not be killed, it's a fact, sadly. Also I have never said this and I think throwing things around like Halo-killer makes people think it is a flop when it doesnt sell a 2 million copies day one.

Consoles owned: Game Cube, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, Nintendo DS, PSP, PS1, PS2, PS3.

My prediction: NATAL WILL NOT help 360 sales. Maybe a 50-100k boost week 1, then a 30-70 k boost week 2, and back to the norm again after 3-5 weeks.

Wii has 5 real games as far as i'm concerned, thats why i dont want one. I might get a 360 becuase of it's low price and it's games, not just the price. People read what they want to read to so you shouldn;t be suprised.
