Forums - General - Some thoughts needed - long read

Okay, the Subject could have been better but maybe I'm just here to take some pain from my heart. It's nearly a year that I'm a member now, I've written with some really nice people and I had a lot of fun reading everything even though I didn't write that much... I don't know the reason why I start this thread now, maybe some will laugh at me or say that I'm stupid to post something like that on a site like this. Also my english sucks these days so please ignore spelling and grammar errors (and others you may find ^^)

Okay, enough intodruction, on to the main topic... It's about my girlfriend. And it's about Videogames so in some way this page fits :)

I know my girlfriend for about a 3/4 year now and we're related for about 2 1/2 months now. She lives about 2 hours away and we both don't have much time to see each other. So we have to phone a lot and find other ways to "be together" like reading for each other, play online games together or just talk. The problem is, she is a mmorpg-Junkie like many these days. It's not WoW, it's Lineage II so I'm not sure if everyone knows it but I guess the problem can be understood without knowing the game... The problem is, she's kind of lost in the game, she can't really live without it. She's trying to force me to play always too and she's angry if I don't want. She's got many friends there but is jealous if I play with females there. I had a long WoW-Phase where I lost many friends so I'm not extreme into MMORPGS anymore. I made a lot of bad experiences with such games so I play them not often (I prefer playing Witcher or my Wii to be honest ^^)

So if I say let's have a nice evening together she's angry because she can't play, if I don't play, she's angry too and I'm kind of helpless. I feel like I'm not more important than a game and I highly doubt that I'm wrong with this thought. It's like when you are in the same room, one is watching TV, one is playing... Maybe it's just me, but I don't feel like this is a relationship. I feel left out and just used when she feels down. My PC was broken not long ago, she said she would miss playing with me but she played all night alone... I just don't get it... She's saying that she needs the game because it lets her escape her life. But shouldn't I be the one more suitable for that? Shouldn't she try to reduce it when I tell her that it hurts me what she's doing? I feel like I should quit but I just hope it may change... I don't know... The feelings are leaving... When we argue, she's asking the people ingame why I'm that harsh and trying to convince them, that she's right...

Maybe the problem is that I had a relationship with such a person already... Over 2 years she was leaving the livingroom to play and refused to be near me when I was not playing...

Don't get me wrong, she is a nice person and I don't want to make her look bad in any way but I need to know if I'm overreacting... I missed some points for sure but this is just for some minor understanding, else this read would never stop from all the things that happened...

So I know you can't change people, they have to change themself but it seems she just don't care. She says she loves me and that I'm the best that ever happend to her but on the other hand a game is more important than I am...

I hope some of you can understand what I was trying to ask and to explain and I thank you for your attention. Maybe some of you can tell me if I just should sit on my back and do something else, don't mind what she's doing and just do my own stuff. But I always care... I don't really know what to do... I just... I don't know... Sorry for stealing your time, have a nice day.

greetz,

matt

Mm I feel like that sometimes too with my boyfriend especially ever since lbp came out, I'm on the back burner 24/7 thanks to a sackboy.

I'd try talking to her, explaining how you feel but..I do that and sometimes he just doesn't care. It's a hard situation...you really gotta decide whats more important to you and how you feel. For me, I'd rather be ignored than live without him but i've been with him for 3 years..

Sorry I can't offer better advice.

My daughter is my world.

Thank you both, it's kind the way I'm thinking too. She just won't accept help so that option doesn't work and like with your bf xtaste, she's ignoring the talkings.

Thank you two anyway, maybe I'll find a way, but it's good to know that I'm not crazy about it :)

Relationships change, and people outgrow each other. I'm just a random guy on the internet, so don't base any life decision on anything I say. I will tell you this:

Figure out what you want from your perfect girlfriend. Decide wich of these qualities she must possess, and which ones you can probably live without. Remember what it was about this girl that made you love her in the first place. If it's still there, and if she has the qualities you want, stay with her. If the relationship has changed so much or the magic is gone, you may want to let her go. Longevity is really not a reason to stay with someone. You only live once.

Good luck, man.

Dude, if she picks a game over you- you don't need that crap.

You just need to be straight up with her and let her know that you're serious, tell her "it's me or the game." Let her know she doesn't have to give up the game completely, but that you, as her boyfriend, should come before it.

If she truly loves you and means what she says, I don't see how that should be too difficult for her.

I just got completely destroyed in this thread...

OUCH!
