Guns are efficient killing weapons designed to distance the user emotionally and physically. Claiming all knives (and not just swords and machetes) should be treated similarly is to say that baseball bats, rocks, mugs and anything else consisting of hard material that could potentially be used to inflict harm needs to be prohibited. |
you're right, I always hate it when people bring politics and such into something that's merely supposed to be funny, except I've been predicting that this issue would happen for years now.
As far as personally engaging? You do realize that one of the standard practices for knives is THROWING them, right? You really don't need to be THAT up close and personal, all you need is to have enough knives and even a remotely reasonable aim and you can do plenty of damage to a random passerby. This used to be a fairly common use for knives, but fell out of use when guns became the standard. Now that people are moving back down the chain of weapons, it won't be long before someone starts figuring out how to use them effectively again.
but actually, my issue has nothing to do with whether knives are as dangerous as or more/less dangeroud than guns. The issue I'm pointing out is that the laws are just getting more and more and more restrictive. Say what you want about how knives aren't as bad as guns, that only makes the case even stronger as to why it's a problem that they're now pushing these laws onto knives as well. Eventually people aren't even going to be able to raise their voices angrily for fear that it will lead to violence.
