Forums - Gaming - Editorial: Nintendo’s Wii Is The Gaming Industry’s Financial Scapegoat

"I don't know why people categorize "mature settings" as hardcore games."

Probably other things beginning with "hardcore".

LOL. Good thing there is no Softcore gamer or X-rated gamer.

The articel started with assuming the shit that gave Nintendo bad 3rd party support is a good thing:

If a company such as Microsoft, Nintendo or Sony allows publishers to let a certain kind of game get developed and published for their system, then they’re basically saying that it meets a certain minimum standard of quality in order to land on a retailer’s shelf.

Then it gets even better

Alternatively, the Wii has been surrounded by some of the worst reviewed games of the year...some of these games have even been published by Nintendo. Mario Party 8, Wii Play and Excite Truck have all been catered toward casual gamers.

First my friend go and visit Neogaf and say that Excite Truck isn't hardcore and you will be banned before you get the time to post one more time. Wii Play is a f**king 10 USD game that you get with a remote. Mario Party 8,  well the published 4 (or was it 5?)on the Gamecube and I didn't see these editors claiming that it would destroy gaiming.

Luigi's Mansion, Eternal Darkness, and Star Wars: Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader run complete circles around Wii titles such as Cooking Mama, Red Steel, and Excite Truck.

So let us bring up three of the best games (mayby not Luigi's Mansion I still think it sucks) and compare it to the worst games. Well what about Zelda, Super Paper Mario, Trauma Center? For the record Excite Truck seems to be a good game according to those that have actualy played it.

What’s worse is that there’s still more crap to come for the Wii; nearly 100 more games are due out for Nintendo’s console before the year is out. Now I’m all for a lot of games for a new console, but it has to be alarming to know that over 200 games will be widely available for the Nintendo Wii before 2008. Nintendo is even pushing for developers to expand the Wii’s library at a very quick pace.

Sigh have this bastard even checked the PS2 library? It is filled with shit games so is every succesfull consol, PS2 and PS1 is proof about this. It is even more fun when he ends the talk about how bad it is that the publisher tries to get games out on the Wii:

So how do developers expect to make quality products in such a short time of working with the new hardware? It's literally the complete opposite of what's happening over at the Sony camp with the PS3. Where the development time and cost are preventing games from being put out quickly for Sony's new console.

Is the last line a good thing or is he trying to defend that the PS3 has no games?

But what happened to games like Cooking Mama? What happened to Tiger Woods, what happened to Transformers, Spider-Man, and Harry Potter? What’s even more sad is that Capcom’s Resident Evil 4, a highly anticipated release for the Wii, is just barely within the top ten games in software sales for June

Nice to know that he knows anything about sales. Mayby he should see that RE4 will most probarbly sell more than Capcom wanted WW. Tiger Woods have been on the english charts for very long. Harry Potter did very well on Wii in england too.

Majority of the audience who purchases a Wii don’t seem to care about games like Alien Syndrome, The Bigs, Excite Truck or Transformers. And before anyone should retort that the reason the games aren’t selling is because they aren’t good, you should take note that Spider-Man 3 and Transformers for the PS2 have both sold very well, despite awful review scores.

So now he is comblaining that the bad games isn't selling? Can he decide what he want to say?

It's an obvious lack of devotion when it comes to the Wii. It also seems apparent enough that Wii gamers are either very picky or completely oblivious to the other software titles out there besides Wii Sports

Again is this a bad thing?

And while the Wii looks like a great opportunity for video game publishers to cash-in on a gullible and naive consumer (i.e., the casual gamer) gamers and video game journalist really need to step up and let their voice be heard against this pathetic and money-hungry tactic. Alternatively, Nintendo really needs to step up and be the guiding light for other publishers out there. They need to either regulate the kind of quality that’s being put into these games or at least show that the Wii can have quality made games that match their quality made retail prices.

Isn't the gamers already regulation this? Is they buying crap? No they aren't so WTF are he trying to say?

I most say that this articel was the worst I have read for a long time

Buy it and pray to the gods of Sigs: Naznatips!

PS - All of the consoles have their crappy games, and they always have, and probably always will. Also, I liked how low market penetration for crappy games = Wii owners are too casual rather than Wii Owners = Not blind.

Yes every one has alot of crap games, but Wii has way more then the others.

Sales of mediocre games like MP8 disproves any "wii owners = not blind" theory.

Actually, MP8 is only rated low because it is a sequel that does not improve much from its previous game. However, it is still a very good game.

Gamepro gave it a 4.5/5 because it was good, but Gamespot gave it a 5/10 because it was fun but still the same Mario Party. I admit that it could be better, but it is still a good game.

1. Luigi's Mansion sucked.
2. Excite Truck is a ton of fun...as is Mario Party to a lesser extent...and yeah, Wii play is f***in 10 dollars.

This is the most biased thing ever.

Let's wait for Killzone3 to say, "You can't take any criticism against the Wii!"

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )

The only thing I agree with is the title. Every third-party out there these days seems to have some form of the following statements attached to their financial reports:

"We had a lot banking on the PS3 and it's not selling as well as we expected."

"The Wii took us by surprise and we didn't have enough out for it but don't worry we're putting tons of quick crap on there now."

The article showed the writers bias and was extremly flawed. Gosh, at least attempt to hide your bias and fanboyism rather then making it so apparent. Anyone could talk about the PS3 and just say how most of it's games are the xbox 360 versions 'bitch' and ignore all the other good titles coming over the next year, just like this person has done with the Wii. NOT GOOD WRITING :@ (ME ANGRY)

Gamespot is a joke.  Their so slanted to the 360 its pathetic.

Killzone3, have you actually played Mario Party 8?
