I myself always purchased games but never touched a game after playing it through for the first time, just have a very short attention span and have never in my 17 years liked a game enough to play more then once. Then MGS 4 released and after that completely changed my mind about buying games, no point in doing so.

Since then all my games have been rentals, have a great rental service where I pay £15 a month and can rent as many games as I want. So far played GeOW 2, Fable 2, R2, LBP, that smelly turd Fallout 3, Dead Space (my GOTY which I would not have played has I not rented games) and lastly Tomb Raider Underworld. Of those I would have only played LBP had I purchased games so rentals have worked out great for me. Only game I will purchase in the future is GT5 because I am a filthy PD whore, every other developer can go suck a lemon, they are not getting a penny from me.

So do you purchase, rent or do a bit of both?

Before I woul rent a game to see what it is like and if I like it, I would buy it. I usually buy a game if it has a good rating or if a friend recommends it for me.

I'll buy a game if its from a series or developer that I love unless the reviews are bad. Sometimes I regret my purchases like MGS4 or DMC4. Rent for everything else.

This year was very bitter for me, GTA, DMC 4 and MGS 4 were games I purchased and absolutely hated. For the amount of cash I spent on those I could have paid for 8 months of rental subscription. All games are rentals from now on, even games I love ala Dead Space I played for a month and then returned, real good stuff.

I never rent I only buy. I look out for cheaper games though which doesn't always work. That's why I've ordered Eternal Sonata for the PS3 today from Videogamesplus for full price. Didn't feel like waiting until February.

@Mirson if you regret buying there's always a "selling" option

@RPG, same as I've said to Mirson. You help the industry more by buying a game and if you don't like it just selling it than renting and don't buy games at all.

Rentals ftw! No game i played is fun enough to play thru the second time.

I used to rent loads of games, using a service that allows me to rent 2 games at a time for £14 a month, but I have pretty much stopped. This is more than partially because on Xbox, I want to make sure that I don't leave games with low gamerscore on my profile (I do have a few...)

I dont rent games anymore...i usually make good judgements on games, except of course for Lair

I dont care for the gaming industry, I have done more then enough for them anyway.
