That's quite a bit of bad luck. I haven't posted here often, but I do come here everyday more or less, and it is clear that you enjoy games regardless of what system they're on, so it's unfortunate that your 360 had to die out before two big games come out (though I don't expect good things from Blue Dragon). Just curious, how long have you owned your 360? I have a launch one, but fortunately mine hasn't died [yet].

Unfortunately at least 90 percent of the people here cannot accept that my favorite console is the PS3 but that I also love certain games on all 3 consoles, some a lot more than others on the PS3.

I've owned a 360 since November, so it's been 9 months.

I am definitely not gonna be playing Metroid Prime with that black bar, it's specifically the kind of game where I can't work around it because I have to point at areas on the screen and shoot.

The thing is the thought of not being able to play much other than DS for the next month or so has forced me to buy a new HD TV just now even though I wanted to save up more money before doing that, but I think this will be best.

Ah, yeah that sucks.  Well if you are looking for a good new DS game I recommend Rune Factory.

So it only takes 7-10 days to be repaired? Well if I get it before the end of the 21st of August I'll be happy.

Edit:@Kn

I should remove the HDD before sending it in right?

Remove the HD and faceplate and don't forget a dvd in the drive.

I hate trolls.

Systems I currently own:  360, PS3, Wii, DS Lite (2)

I got the «3 red light problem» 5 times since i purchased my 360...(january 2006)

With that kind of «shit»...its no surprise the sale of the xbox 360 are going down!
So how am I lying?

You shouldnt have shipped it back.. There's another way to fix it, just grab a bathroom towel turn on the 360 with the red ring let it get SCORCHING HOT!!turn it off, and then take the towl off an it cools down fast, 30 minutes later its fixed :D

I am not sure whether you meant that to be a joke or not, but I laughed.

Sorry about your 360 man, I hope you get it back soon.  Your opinion on upcoming games is going to partially affect whether I buy another one or not.

Ughhh, no its not a joke it works...I even have you tube to back me up..

There's million of those videos it really works.

Heck, this makes sense. If it's a soldering problem, this will just resolder the pins on the console. If it's a CPU/GPU thing, this could as well work too... have ever heard of "burn in" a PC? :P

ckmlb, did your 360's dvd drive act weird before it died?

I got my 360 in august of 2006, I bought it new from ebay and it was japanese. Does anybody know if japanese xbox 360s had more or less problems with red lights? I have a Hitachi-LG dvd drive, hope that helps.

I think all older ones have the same problems. Mine did act weird yes, a couple of months before I had a temporary red rings thing then it went away, also the week before it went red there was considerable slow down in the game I was playing, I thought it was because of the game, but now I think it goes with the stories of what happens before you get the rings.

Well the good news out of all this is it pushed me to get a new HD TV quicker and I should have it by the end of this week or early next so I'll be ready for Metroid and I still haven't played NGS in anticipation of an HD TV, I guess those will satisfy me since I won't get to play Bioshock or Blue Dragon for a while.

It's gonna be pretty crappy having the collector's edition of Bioshock with everything and not be able to play it for weeks

Anybody else getting the collector's edition of Bioshock with the Big Daddy and stuff?

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

You know what's funny, I got 3 red rings the other day. Actually it was my roommate that was playing. So I turned it off and on and it fixed itself. I wonder if this means that my 360 is close to crashing. I'm not worried though. I have the futureshop extended warranty which means I can walk in and get another. I just don't want to exchange it until the new Xbox's with better parts arrive. This is my second 360. The first one had the white read error screen and scratch up my Gears of War disc.

hook up your PS3 to your PC monitor.

If you actually got an Xbox 360 hot enough to resolder something inside of it there would be smoke coming out of it.

If this technique does actually work, my guess would be that it works because of thermal expansion (of what, I can't possibly guess), but that's just a shot in the dark.

Actually, no. I have de-soldered capacitors from PC motherboards using a common hair dryer.

@ Astrodust )

3 RR is "unknown hardware failure" and "overheating" , so it can be something else than what causes the other 360's to die (the melting of pins of the GPU)

but it may very well be an indicator ,that your 360 gets too hot ,so I'd suggest to take some steps to prevent a possible hw failure , like taking a break every 2-3 hours to let it cool down or make sure it's in a well ventilated place
