It's not like Nintendo had a lot of third party support to lose. Which big franchise was exclusive to the GC and wasn't first party? You can't lose what you don't have, so naturaly the console which was going to lose the most support would be the one who dominated last gen and is now limping in third place, not the one which was limping in third place last gen and is now dominating this one.

Even if Microsoft would have done nothing SONY would still have lost a good deal of exclusive support on the simple matter of there low marketshare.
