Forums - Sales Discussion - Prince of Persia sleeper hit confirmed?!

mrstickball said:
It's actually a sleeper hit. PoP has received very little fanfare from VGC, or any other gaming forum for that matter. Yet, the reviews have been stellar, and it seems ioi is saying the game has moved a significant number of copies.

The MGC #s aren't a good indicator - as said - they have some issues since they've merged PoP classic with PoP 2009.

Thanks for the back up! Its interesting to see such low numbers on MGC. I can only guess because this doesn't seem like a very online orientated game most people are playing offline. Also maybe a lot of copys where bought and wrapped up for christmas.

Also Maybe a lot of the 800k buyers last week picked up a copy this week and have yet to subscribe to live. Just throwing out excuses here!

I don't want to stir up console comparisons, but metacritic is rating the ps3 version 1 point higher than the xb360 version. the ps3 also has 3 more reviews than the 360, too.

has anyone heard if there are any major differences between the two or is it just ps3 only publications gushing over this game more than the 360 only publications?

art direction on this game looks incredible. i'm still on the fence though because it's already a jam-packed season for gaming.

Well, MGC can skew data both ways, and easily: Left 4 Dead is #5 on their list, yet did pretty mediocre it's first week. I had it pegged at 500,000 o/w (which it's there by week 2 thanks to huge US legs, but still)...It debuted at half that. MGC can skew online titles - so we can assume the inverse can be true, as well.

And since it's near Christmas, your going to get a huge influx of new X360 owners that don't know about MGC - data tends to become less accurate around this time of the year for retail extrapolations. Sure, we can tell what old X360 owners are buying, but the new ones are much more elusive.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

The 6/10 EG review cooled my enthusiasm pretty badly.

Wow, I really didn't expect this to sell well. I haven't seen any hype for it.
1 million first week 360 would be very, very good. 1 million across both platforms would even be more than I expected.

It is kind of hard to believe but the proof is there! I have just watched the video review for this on IGN and I'm going to buy it ahead of L4D, Banjo, Lips & Fallout 3!

Lier, you bought Lips. I can see it in your gamercard.

BTW, Lips is an awesome party game.

It sure looks like the majority of the gamers slept through the launch of this title. BTW, are people aware that there is a DS version of the game too:
prince of Persia Fallen King

Currently playing on PS3: God of War III

Currently playing on Xbox360: Final Fantasy XIII

Currently playing on NDS: Chrono Trigger

i think starting this week, this game will have better sales, hopefully not going into BGE (very good multiplatform game that have bad sales),
