Forums - Sony Discussion - PS3 to support 400GB Blu Ray Discs!!

I can already see pirates putting 10 games on 1 disc someday

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.

that is incredible. don't know what all that space could be used for right now, but

HD porn anyone...?

Great if you want to throw entire hard drives on a blu-ray disk for backup, but this probably wont mean much of anything for games.

Exactly. On the other hand they say that these discs are compatible with BluRay readers. I would expect BluRay burner are more complicated to upgrade to 16 layers?

So perhaps good for the complete Denver-clan or Dallas on one disc. Or all Friends episodes together.

HD porn is gross. who wants to see surgery scars and sagging skin from bad boob jobs.

for movies and television shows, it sounds awesome. for games... the low spin speed drives me crazy.

Wow, i can't beleive it will hold 40x the storage than the 360, that's just amazing.

TO GOD BE THE GLORY

Question can they do up to 16 layer or its all or nothing. ei. Can they do 4 layer?
And if MGS4 took up most of the space on current Bluray discs, wouldn't something like MGS5 or the next Final Fantasy benefit from this?

Don't Worry.....Be Happy

400gb disc filled would probably be too much data for PS3. MGS4 needed multiple installs with 50gb

After reading through tons of Pioneer websites and related technology forums, it is pretty obvious (as I expected) that NONE of the currently available blu-ray drives are capable of reading a 400Gbyte 16 layer disc, as the pickup and data separation electronics and mechanics are way too unprecise on current drives.
