Erm... I think Takashii360's account has been hacked. Mods... MODS.

There is NO way that the PS3 is the last Sony console. Sony is in the console business for one reason and one reason only, and that reason is money. If the PS3 is Sonys last console Sony won't be able to make money, as it will hit a certain point when it just wont be able to sell anymore, and yet Sony would still need to support it through Firmware updates, customer service, etc, etc.

If the PS3 were the last Sony console I see 1 of 2 things happening:

1) Microsoft and Nintendo release their new consoles. People interested in new technologies and new fashions will buy the new consoles. After a while everyone else will get bored of their PS3s and buy one (or two) of the new consoles. All third parties will move their projects over to the other consoles. PS3 dies.

2) Microsoft and Nintendo copy Sonys stategy and never release a new console. The gaming industry would become stagnant. With other entertainment industries moving faster and faster, the gaming industry would slowly die. PS3 dies. 360 dies. Nintendo dies.

I wouldn't like to see either of them happening, but if I had to pick one, it'd be numeero uno

I have a great deal of difficulty believing that Sony or Microsoft are producing gaming consoles because of the profits in the market. The problem (as I see it) is that neither company's strategy or market position can provide them with much in the way of profits unless they're market leaders. Now, I don't think there is one particular motivation which keeps these companies in the market and I expect that these consoles are so important to them because they tie multiple long term emerging market strategies together.

I could be paranoid, but both Sony's Playstation and Microsoft's XBox products are becomming similar in features and services to several products that both companies have tried to develop for years unsuccessfully.
