Forums - Sales - Microsoft: Xbox 360 Sales Boon over Big Weekend??

The weekend after Thanks Giving, known as Black Friday weekend in America, is one of the biggest shopping times in the US. Microsoft reports a 25% increase in sales for the period over the same period last year.

Once again beating down any fears of hardship in the economic downturn we’re now experiencing. Microsoft continued to boast that its console outsold the PlayStation 3 with a three-to-one ratio over the weekend, mainly due to the Xbox 360’s lower price and Microsoft's advertising campaign.

Don Mattrick, Senior Vice President of the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft, commented;

"We entered into the Black Friday sales period with cautious optimism, knowing that dollar for dollar, Xbox 360 offers more social entertainment value than any other console on the market.

"Record Black Friday sales in the U.S., coupled with our existing global install base of 25 million and an online community of more than 14 million Xbox LIVE members, have laid the groundwork for continued global sales momentum in 2009."
