There is no doubt that the gap will diminish in the long and PS3 still has the chance to pass the 360 in the long run (2010 as earliest). There are two important points to look at here,

a) Is 360 persistently outselling PS3 by cumulative sales from the launch on a weekly basis? NO
http://vgchartz.com/hwlaunch.php?cons1=X360®1=All&cons2=PS3®2=All&cons3=X360®3=All&weeks=156
The green line (360) is NOT above the red line!

b) Does PS3 still have incredible exclusives? YES

As long as the answers are 1)No, and 2)Yes, PS3 is far from being doomed.

But the PS3's top exclusives have already gone to the 360 and the general view from gamers is that the 360 is the PS2 of this generation in terms of software.  It's the gamers' console.

The PS3 closing the gap by the end of 2010 at this point looks extremely unlikely.  Sony first needs to reverse the trend of the 360 outselling them every year, then they can look at outselling the 360 by 7 million units.

i dont see gran turismo 5 god of war 3 and killzone 2 on 360 >_> and FF it's a exclusive in japan and versus worldwide.

all games likely over 3-4 million sellers

i dont think its the games that will really help.i just think sony has a very large playstation fanbase which is why ps3 is seling so well for the highest priced console ever! people are still willing to pay for it and once it gets cheaper it wil only accelerate. sony are beating their target sales and thats what counts. not what we think or what the media think. they are beating their target of 10 million for the year by 30% according to jack tretton.

first we will have to see how the 360 holds up in january. at christmas you never know what happening! with ps3 you know that is like 95% hardcore gamers buying it but with 360, a majority of the sales coming from it in december were most likely parents looking for the cheapest console as presents for their family.

Christmas was the key for sony and they blew it, people made fun of the price cut of the 360 saying it was desperate and doomed but it was brilliant as we can see from sales.  Not as brilliant as the WII but thats inits own league. I disgaree about your statement on parents (especially me being one), I am not going to buy a system my kids do not want, I will admit I may try to steer them but they know what they want.

PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.

Currently playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, Halo ODST and Dragon Age Origins is next game

Last January / February the PS3 got a nice bump when Toshiba pulled the plug on HD-DVD. This wont be repeated this January.
The PS3 might be on a downward sales trend becuase it's not the cheapest blu-ray player anymore.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.
