Forums - Gaming - Gaming and the Economy Crisis

Let's see, as we all(or most of us) know, the economy is in a quite a crisis. People are buying less, and spending less during this time. Yet the gaming industry doesn't seem be suffering such as the auto industry for example. Is this because the game industry is ressession proof? Or is it in such a way that no matter what happens, gamers will still spend money regardless on the state of the economy? Either way, the gaming industry seems to be better off despite the economy.

I would say that it's more of a behemoth especially in this recession.

Sales-wise, the gaming industry is doing very well despite (some would say because of) the economic crisis.

However, Japanese companies are getting hit bad (including Nintendo and Sony) due to the weakening of the dollar and euro.

This crisis doesn't effect a lot of gamers. They don't have to buy their food, taxes are being paid by their parents and so on.

the gaming industry has replaced the movies as the economy resistent industry.
