Forums - Sony Discussion - Why do "you" (those of you know who you are) do that?

Why do you insist on trying to make me feel bad/inferior for owning and loving a PS3?  So what if I prefer my PS3 to my Wii?  So what if I don't own a 360?  What's it to you?  I'm tired of thread after thread of PS3 bashing or overanalysis of weekly sales numbers.  I wanted Blu-ray playback, free online and Sony franchises, but that's just me.  Let's take a nugget of wisdom from the theme song to the TV show Diff'rent Strokes.  "What might be right for you, may not be right for some."  (I love 80's TV)  All kidding aside, no matter what console you prefer, they are all doing well and have great software.  Just because your preferred console has sold more, doesn't make it "better".  What's right is not always popular and what's popular is not always right.

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

Because people enjoy that people suffer/get hurted.

Well I think most people are talking about sales on this site and what you may feel like putting down your system is really just criticism as to why it won't sell boatloads and why it won't get massive exclusive support. I own a PS3 and I like it for its media server capabilities and the blue-ray is a nice addition but IMO it does lag in the games department there are some great games on it though and if it were my only system I wouldn't be dissappointed but my Wii just gets more play time than the PS3.

As for others Sony fans spent the early part of thsi gen ripping on the Wii and there is probably some resentment.

Finally Sony bough the early part of this upon themselves with their outlandish PR that made a joke of the gaming industry and insulted people who were not fanbois.

Why do you care what they think? You need alligator skin if you want to succeed in life because there would always be detractors for every choice you make. It'll also help you in the dating game too lol.

I'm having the opposite problem.  I'm struggling to find more Wii games that interest me since I've beaten the majority of the ones that interested me already.  For PS3, however, there are still several games on my wishlist that I can't yet afford.  My Wii has been relegated to the system for my 4 yr. old son and the PS3 is mostly for me.  My reasons for not having a 360 are personal.  Personally, I can't bring myself to reward a faulty product (no matter how enticing the software) with my hard earned $.  That last statement was not inteded to inflame anyone.  It's just the way I feel.

overanalysis of weekly sales numbers

Is that not the raison d'etre of this website?

In my (mostly lurking) experience, it seems a lot of people get defensive about comments that weren't necessarily meant to be taken personally. I think there are a large number of users here who, although they may have a strong attachment to a particular console, sincerely recognize and appreaciate the strengths/weaknesses of each competitor's product, and simply want to discuss numbers and how trends this generation are so different from last. Of course, not everyone's "analyses" will agree, and some (many? most?) barely pass (or completely fail to pass) the Laugh Test, so a thick skin, easing of defensive attitudes, and a certain level of maturity are required.

That being said, there certainly are also people who simply want to cheerlead for their own team and do their best to irritate the supporters of other teams. So what? Why let it get under your skin? The console manufacturers are all "big boys" now, and don't need us to stand up for them. Personally, I don't see the point in wasting time and useless energy (frustration, anger, etc.) on the boorish comments of someone I've never even met.

Sometimes, why not just let a comment slide, especially if it is clear that its sole purpose is to provoke you? And, if you must respond, why not try to remain coldly analytical and/or neutral, without getting personal and adding to the cycle?

If you can't afford some of the games you want for your current system, there's no point getting a new one anyway. I have the same problem. So many games are on my ps3 wishlist but I lack both time(finals) and money.
