the only ones that really like this are the NDP because they wont get power any other way. and not even all the NDP are fond of this situation.

Agreed Dogs.

There is a very real chance that it could be disastrous. But there was a very real chance that things could have been disastrous before as well.

I think that right now we all just need to give the opposition parties a little (just the tiniest little amount) of credit. Enough credit to respect that they aren't a bunch of crazed morons flinging poop and saying "me power, me power" They're intelligent and experienced individuals who surely grasp that the incredible challenge that this poses to them and won't take that lightly. I'm sure they'll work like hell towards the goal of making parlaiment work and to dealing with this economic crisis. We've spent the last few years watching different minority parliaments work together in numerous ways. Now it's just time for one more way.

And come on, anything to put a little bit of excitement in the Canadian history books!

Dion must be punching himself in the nuts while yelling "Stupid, stupid, stupid" (that's how I chastise myself) for resigning from the leadership of his party 8 weeks before becoming prime minister. Had he just waited for his party to kick him out, he would be the incumbent PM during the leadership race.

I feel sorry for your nuts. And Dion's.

Outside of left-leaning political buffs, and people who "Hate" Stephen Harper (typically without being able to cite any reason why they "Hate" him) I have seen very little support for this coalition. I do think that entering into this coalition will only ensure a Conservative Majority in the next election, which will (probably) be much sooner than the coalition expects.

Back in the day, the PC party and the Reform Party had a combined vote which was very close to the Liberals even though the Liberals won majorities. The people who decided which party formed the government were described as Red-Tories/Blue-Liberals and Stephen Harper has been able to capture these voters in a large part because they believed the Liberals were fiscally conservative and they had a better chance of dealing with Qubec separatists. Creating a coalition with socialists and separatists, giving the separatists 6 senate seats, and running up a $30+ Billion deficit is a deal with the devil for many of these voters and the Liberals will be lucky if they don't get wiped out like the Mulroney Tories in the next election.

There is talk that many Liberal backbenchers are realizing this, and all it would take is one leadership contender (who doesn't want to lead a doomed party) to stand against this coalition for it to fall apart.

this coalition cant get the video tape of their response to the Prime Minister made and out on time, with any quality(taped on cellphone?) and yet they think they can run the country?

I keep hearing a lot of confusion about this entire situation (not really in this thread), but just no one really getting a proper grasp of the situation.

Now, I did not vote for Stephen Harper (may make me biased), but I would currently agree with the Liberal/NDP coalition as it stands right now. Mainly because the first things the Conservatives have done is NOT in the best interest of the country. Since Harper seems to be doing things that will benefit the Conservatives, I think that his minority government shouldn't be allowed to govern Canada until they start putting the countries interests first.

On a side note, I think this move should actually reinvigorate the Liberals because it actually makes it look like Dion may actually have some balls in those pants (would have fooled me for the last few years).

HARPER ALLOWED TO PROROGUE PARLIAMENT

coalition gonna have to wait.

I don't know a ton about this coalition government idea but I do know i don't like it. Stephane Dion would make a crappy PM. Also NDP is a socialist party and I hate them.

This coalition government in non-democratic. The people didn't decide on this, they voted in Stephen Harper, not a coalition of the three losing parties.

They should either have another election (so conservatives can win again) or they should shut the fuck up and let Harper do his job.

The survey suggests Gov. Gen. Michaelle Jean was in tune with public opinion across the country when she agreed Thursday to suspend, or prorogue Parliament until Jan. 26 at the request of Harper. Almost seven in 10 of those surveyed Tuesday and Wednesday gave prorogation a thumbs up.

The Tories also were deemed by almost six in 10 Canadians to be the best managers of the economy in these troubling times.

Results of the wide-ranging survey, conducted exclusively for Canwest News Service and Global National, paint a picture of a population gripped by fear that is largely giving the Conservatives the benefit of the doubt - for now - to lead the country in such uncertain political and economic times.

"Overall, this is breaking quite clearly to the government as opposed to the coalition," said pollster Darrell Bricker.

Fully 60 per cent of those interviewed said they opposed replacing the government with Liberal-NDP coalition supported by the Bloc Quebecois, compared with 37 per cent who favoured the idea. Support for the coalition was highest in Quebec at 50 per cent, followed by 44 per cent in Atlantic Canada.

For all parties involved the Prorogation was probably the best option ...

Mr. Harper: The people able to pass legislation are no longer my party, please shut down government so that the will of the majority of parliament is ignored and nothing can be done.

Mrs. Jean: Sure thing Harper, anything to help you at the expense of everyone else.

This is shit.
