Forums - Gaming - What's The Point of Arguing Who Will Finish Where?

It's Been a while since I've last commented on this site, but I've have been checking in regularly and reading up on what you guys have to say. I used to think that who finished in what position actually mattered, but now that I think about it does it really matter at all? Does anyone on this forum legitimatly think that any of the three, sony, microsoft, and nintendo, will not make another system after this generation? Why do we argue about why our system is better then the others, does it matter at all? I personally am a Sony fan, but just because I am a sony fan does that mean I cant like either the Wii or 360? I feel like we've become glued to "our companys" and lost track of whats the important factor in gaming, being competitive and having fun.

I don't know, this is just something thats been bugging me. I see countless threads titled "Sony is Dead", "Microsoft will fall in 2009", "Wii is for Kids", but as long as the people who own the systems are having fun, what does it matter...

The one arguement that I think once was legitimate was that the company with the userbase will get the thirdparty titles, but in a time where production costs are so high, even that arguement is gone, soon multiplat titles will be the only titles, there will be no more "loyalty". Except for IP games.

What do you guys think?

If we didn't argue over the internet, about our favourite consoles dominating the other consoles, in sales/feature/games what else would we do..............play games? That's absurd!

When the Gamecube started falling behind the original Xbox, some games I really wanted to play stopped getting ported. The games that were ported started being ported later than the other two consoles. There are actual reprecussions for not winning in the eyes of the consumer.

This.

This site is about sales after all, so the endless bickering about who will come first, second or third should not come as a surprise.

I think in the last generation there were SERIOUS repurcussions to finishing last, eg wht d21lewis says above and even worse (*sob*), see what happened to the Dreamcast.

I honestly don't think that either the 360 or PS3 has anything to fear here though.  Both have large enough market share to warrant further multiplatform development.  The only way this changes is if the eventual PS3 pricecut does not change the current 360 to PS3 sales.  Should that happen, then given the smaller PS3 userbase and the "supposed" size of the teams necessary to take advantage of the PS3, it may lose some 3rd party support.  I do not however expect this to be the case (nor do I expect 10 billion PS3 sales when the price-cut happens but that is outside the scope of this discussion).

I agree with you completely. I only have PS3 but whenever I get the chance I go to my friends houses who have Wii and 360. I love my PS3 but both Wii and 360 have some great exclusives
