Forums - Sales - Wii Music - Hit or Miss?

After the first week of Wii Music in Americas, and the first 2 in Japan, Wii Music was gladly announced a flop by most on VGChartz, this includes myself.

Well, a few notes regarding that.

Wii Music (200K) is the 2nd best selling console music game in Japan, behind only Donkey Konga (460K). As far as I can see, no other console music game has beaten 50K this gen.

When a game in an incredibly niche genre sells over 200K in a single territory, can you really call it a flop?

In Others, Wii Music sold over 230K in two weeks, and had a 45% increase from week 1 to week 2. It looks pretty definate that it will break 1M in Pal. That would make it beat all other instrument games in PAL. If it beats 1.2M, it will be the 2nd best selling music game in PAL, behind the original Singstar (1.76M) only.

It is very likely that Wii Music will be the 2nd best selling music game in Others, and it has a decent change of becomming the best selling one. Hardly a flop.

But in the last area, Americas - where music games really sell, Wii Music appears to have done pretty bad. In its first 5 weeks, it sold 250K. It did see an increase in the 5th week though, which gives it hope.

Well, let's compare those 250K to what other Music titles did.

Guitar Hero 3 Ps3 sold 230K in 5 weeks, and ended with 1.2M in Americas.

Guitar Hero 1 on Ps2 sold 80K in 5 weeks, and ended with 1.57M in Americas.

Rock Band Wii sold a little less than 300K in 5 weeks, and looks like it should beat 1M in Americas.

So it looks pretty definate that it will sell at least 1M in Americas (we all know what Wii xxx titles are most known for), with the possibility of 2M.

That means it will probably sell a 3-4M WW, which is certainly not a flop, but rather one of the bigger succeses in this generation.

Will have its legs it seems. I dont dare to make a lifetime prediction

It will be an evergreen title throughout the consoles life.

I see 3 million at least for this title. Maybe lots more.
It's a "word of mouth" game. Very viral like Wii Sports.

I think 3 mil would make it a hit in any circle.

Don't be fooled. Seriously. Who here thought Mario and Sonic at the Olympics wouls sell like it did?

Predictions For Last Full Week of Sales in 2010)

WII - 80.35 Million

360 - 43.88 Million

PS3 - 41.40 Million

More terrible predictions coming Jan. 2011!!!

WTF dude? I wrote that in another thread. You can't just rip off what someone else has written and post it, giving no mention that someone else wrote it. This is the 2nd time you do this (the 1st was with TWRoO I believe).

I guess we just magically wrote the same thing then. http://vgchartz.com/forum/post.php?id=1486808

I have no real problem with this thread (I actually kind of like the title), but if you had either asked me if it was OK, or had said "Oyvoyv wrote this originally" at the end, that would have been much better.

You just copypastad my post into the other thread.

Looks like M&S Olympics had a very similar 1st two weeks on the market when it was released compared to Wii Music (Edge to M&S)

Then M&S shot the moon for the holidays at 400K a week.

I see this game trending the same... Slow at first, then...well you know.

Up to this point, Wii Music has sold about 252,945 copies in North America within 41 days, 202,628 copies in Japan in 45 days and 226,801 copies in Europe in nine days. That's good!

The most thrown around figure for this game's sales is 2 million. Once it hits that, it will no longer be considered a flop. Maybe in comparison to the other Wii titles, but not as a standalone title.

It'll pass 1 million sometime in the next 3 weeks, and will probably get maybe 200k-350k for the last 3 weeks of the year or something. The legs will carry it past 2 million throughout the course of next year.
