Forums - Gaming - F.E.A.R. 2 Banned in Australia

F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin, Monolith's sequel to the much-loved horror shooter, F.E.A.R., has been refused classification by the Australian Classifications Board, formerly known as the OFLC. The ACB banned F.E.A.R. 2 over what it claims is 'high violence' in its content.

IGN Spoke with Warner Interactive Australia earlier today to source further details on the situation. According to a representative from the distributor, "Warner is actively working through the appeal system with the ACB and is exhausting all options. We are doing all we can to get F.E.A.R. 2 released in the AU market."

The game, which is slated for release on February 11 in Australia, is still far enough off that there is hope the game will make it through the appeals process and onto shelves unmodified in our region - though, Warner was unwilling to comment officially on this portion of the matter.

What a joke the bureaucrats in Australia must be to make such pathetic decisions to censor video games. Black market of FEAR 2 and illegal downloads of that game in Australia will increase as a result of the banning of the game.

The government obviously is not listening to the many Australian gamers who are sick of this classification system. They really need to get the fact that most gamers are over 18 through their thick skulls. What possible reason could they have to not have a R rating?
