Forums - Gaming - Square Enix: 360 Final Fantasy XIII Is Not A Betrayal Or Disappointment

At this point whatever Square-Enix executives say is pointless and a further slap in the face. If they were truly fair and were going all out multi platform then they wouldn't have SO4 as an exclusive and the Last Remnant as a timed exclusive.

SE are obviously just a bunch of money w@#@#s but I suppose it's a sound business model and their shareholders must be happy with the exception of Sony obviously.

And just to add what he's basically saying is that although we are constantly shafting PS3 owners by making most games exclusive to 360 or multi platform and making them wait longer in America/Europe until the 360 FF13 port is finished we want those same PS3 owners to go out and buy our games.

And he's trying to sugarcoat it by saying they are optimizing it first on the PS3. Which is twisting the truth because each of the consoles have their own advantages and disadvantages and due to the fact that FF13 is multi platform it will more or less have to look identical on both consoles.

Biggest issue I have is with disc capacity. I'm fairly confident that they will cut down on content to accommodate 360's DVD medium.

As much as I love Final Fantasy I think I just might wait until it goes platinum to buy it.

Again Square is a THIRD PARTY. They can publish games for any console they want. Sony fans should just be happy that FFXIII is still coming out on the PS3.

some Japanese fans of final fantasy really want it or believe that final fantasy should be on their ps3 console only, i think to them its the "Japanese thing to do" i'm asian myself so i kinda feel what the Japanese are feeling and they somehow feel betrayed because square-enix is an "asian company" and final fantasy should stay on their "asian console" square making final fantasy 12 multiplatform is somehow betraying that "asianpride"....NOW THIS IS MY OPINION ON WHY THEY (the Japanese) FEEL BETRAYED. and if your non Japanese and you feel betrayed its more out of jealousy and jealously leads to anger then pain then suffering. i mean com'on why be so selfish to only want the ps3 have have final fantasy only and i don't think that's right, NO I BELIEVE ITS NOT RIGHT. all games i believe should be on both consoles.

Then you are calling him a liar, because he said they are not doing things like that.

I said I'm fairly confident. Which means I doubt what he's saying. He may or may not be telling the truth. Simply put, at this point I don't really trust what they say anymore.

ahem....Those Dicks ARE delaying the PS3 version so they can release it simultaniously with the 360 version. I smell 2010 release. who knows maybe I'll stop gaming by then? real life is taking it's toll on me.

But there is no reason to cut content. They can just use multiple DVDs if the PS3 version uses loads of disc space.

The problem is your "confidence" stems from the belief that there will actually be a need to cut or downgrade anything from the game. Sorry, just because so many of you think the PS3 is that much more powerful than the 360 doesn't actually make it so.

At no point did I make any assertion that either console is more powerful. I clearly said that they both have their strengths and weaknesses.

Actually I'm strictly talking about capacity. It is a fact that a dual layer BR disc has 50GB of storage space and that a dual layer DVD has ~8.7gig. Now do you really think that if they max out the BD they would be willing to make the same game on the 360 on ~6 DVDs.

It's much easier for instance to take out Japanese audio support to cut down on storage requirements. This would be a non issue if the game was PS3 exclusive.

Now I'm not saying I'm 100% sure this will be the case but I think it's a distinct possibility. Time will tell.

Well that's assuming they were even planning on using anywhere near that much before the decision to go dual platform (or multi, if it's on the PC).

And the thing is that content is not always about capacity, no matter what some claim (this included developers).

Graphics are unlikely to be cut, since the system's are close in power anyway.

FMVs are likely to take up the most space. If there is any cutting to make an easier fit on the 360, it would likely be there. Or they would have higher resolution ones on the PS3 version, as GTA IV did.

Another thing to cut would be audio. Not necessarily removing tracks, but not using uncompressed audio tracks in the PS3 version, assuming both versions are meant to be identical.

But in terms of proper game content, I wouldn't worry about that. You can still fit a hell of a lot on even one disc. Plenty of 360 games have shown that. So fitting loads of contend on three to five (if it comes to that) will still give you plenty of game.
