Forums - Sony - Square Enix really stabbed Sony in the back

It makes sense why SE is releasing FF13 on the 360 as well. They want their hard work on a title to pay off with alot of sales. But when the ps3 version is completed, it should cone out. F same time release. That's where I feel a little backstab. Why wait? SE is getting overrated now anyways. I'd like to see a competitor come in and push them

That would happen except that a lot of people won't buy JRPGs not called FF or KH.  Most JRPGs that do sell in the West just happen to be published by S-E.  S-E are just too large of a company to be pushed by Level 5 or any other competitior.  It would take another The Spirits Within-sized flop from S-E in order to do them in and I doubt S-E would do that huge of a risk ever again.

I cant believe Sony fans are still bitter about SE, they do support Sony with FF XIII, FFv , Agito , Last Remnant etc. etc. Just because they going multi platform does not mean some sort of betreyal. Reality is much different than in previous generations Sony no Longer dominates therefore to make profits games need to be available to more then just one console. SE is not Sony's 2nd party studio, plus JRPG's do not really perform well on the PS3 with brilliant game like Valkyria Chronicles (SRPG but still) not being very succesful, and with the release of Eternal Sonata.

Just get over it, and accept the reality PS3 is still getting big SE titles.

Valkyria Chronicles and Eternal Sonata didn't get a lot of hype.  Games need hype to sell.  JRPGs like FFXIII and to a somewhat smaller extent, White Knight Chronicles, and Star Ocean The Last Hope are the JRPGs with the hype to sell decently.

May i ask, how old is Eternal Sonata??

I know they did not have that much hype, but they still underperformed, Playstation brand had usually tons of great RPG's not PS3 does not have many and many people expected RPG hungry PS3 owners to support those efforts but it seems that this is not the case, because Sony turned away from traditional JRPG owners by further westernising its product. I know how old is eternal Sonata i know this could've affected the sales ,but for me it seems that majority of PS3 owners are not interested in RPG, and sales of VAlkyria Chronicles (a brilliant game) should be much higher

I hope WKC does better because it looks really good, if not then this could affect further RPG efforts on PS3. Because both FF XIII and FFv XIII will have great sales.

At one time in this gaming industry Square Enix were on good terms with Sony. However, on one horrible day at E3 2008, they announced that one of playstation best exclusive series was going on the 360. The 360, who happens to be the Ps3's #1 rivals. It was like a shot heard around the world to Sony. Now I am hearing Square-Enix is pushing 360 to sell more than the ps3 in japan. Japan! which happens to be the place where they are keeping Final Fantasy XIII exclusive. What the hell is going on? I mean I might be overreacting, but Final Fantasy series is probably the best RPG exclusives Sony has to offer. I don't know but after hearing Square Enix talk about pushing 360 in japan, I have lost a lot of respect for Japan.

Stop getting pissed because Microsoft has a more reliable installed base. SE has realized that and wants to make profit. What do you expect them to do, go under out of loyalty to Sony? You've got to be kidding me. PS3 fanboys seem to be the most delusional and biased people. They put such blind faith into a brand that once they are let down, they don't know who to blame.

PS3 owners need to get back to reality and focus on the fact that the PS3 era is nowhere near the PS2 era. Sony screwed this up for themselves trying to get Blu Ray through the door so they have to deal with having the more expensive alternative system in the HD wars as well as the most f'ed up installed base i've ever seen in a gen that is more erratic.

Interesting read so far this thread.

Yes, SquEnix are a business. We all get that, they want money and they go where the money is. In the case of many recent games this money is from M$ directly I'm sure as it sure hell isn't the JRPGs on the 360 sell well, UI is selling great isn't it? Especially in Europe. :P
People can stop with the whole attach rates crap. If the games came out on the Wii they'd sell better, we all know this, especially in Japan. PS3 has more consoles in Japan and that's where this matters surely. A console with a million more units is not getting the games while one with less is. Attach rates or not, you have a better chance of making money on a console that has sold 2million with an attached rate of 15% then one with 1million and 25%. (not accurate figures obviously)

In the world markets, JRPGs are not the sellers they are in Japan and where they matter the 360 is still the weakest selling console.

Luckily though, SquEnix love handheld consoles and are giving both DS and PSP a nice load of games.

Hmm, pie.

Only sad naive fools (fanboys*cough*) dont understand the true reality of the world. If you think anything near the lines that square made games for sony because of love you need to stop playing video games and get some knowledge cuz your just a dumb fuck. Didnt see your bitchasses complain when square switched to sony from nintendo. Btw enix has been sucking the shit anyways, most its recent games have been pretty disappointing. And has made no game close to the qualities of the old squaresoft highlights.
