Forums - Sales - Sony's video game division is in turmoil. Nintendo is dominating sales.

I agree their is more then enough blame to go around, but the advertising is probably the least responsible. At some point you must lay the blame for sales performance at the feet of the hardware and the library. Which have undersold themselves before the advertisers arrived.

Sony need to advertise more and be smarter about it.

Here in the UK you are nearly guaranteed to see a PS3 add during major sporting events.

Congrats Sony you are targetting the market the Xbox had already won.
Maybe its a stroke of genius and all the gen x males will go out and by a second high def console with hundreds of duplicated titles at an eye watering price.

Then again maybe they wont.

Well what are they to do? If they try going after any other market they would be stepping into Wii territory and have even less chance of success there.

PSP sold well, especially after having low sales for a long while. (even when some predicted that it would destroy the DS)

The problem with PS3 is the price, and connected to that is lower demand for Playstation brand with offerings of Xbox360 and the Wii, most people (non gamers) no longer see Playstation as the only alternative in gaming (something that won them previous generations)

This has absolutely nothing to do with marketing and EVERYTHING to do with price. Everything.

Yeah, it's to do with price most of all. I wonder what Sony will do next generation, it must suck going from first to last like that.

Sony is doing pretty well I think considering their later arrival on the scene compared to the Xbox and the higher price tag.

I don't know if people noticed, but Sony managed to pull the Xbox360's marketshare down under 30% this week.

Why does everyone keep saying, "Sony is doing well considering the price tag of its products"?  This is confusing to me, because price tag is irrelevant to business -- profit is relevant.  Sony is losing money on each PS3 sold. Selling fewer can be considered a good thing.

Rather than saying, "The PS3 is doing good considering its price" we should say, "The PS3 is selling fewer units and Sony is losing less money than if the PS3 was seling a lot."

Or we could say the executives at PS3 were so delusional to think they could release the PS3 at any price and it would have the biggest share this gen simply on the back of the Playstation brand name.
