Forums - Sales - UK & Japan Total Weekly Software Unit Sales

It's not perfect as we're combining different trackers for Japan, and some of the UK data also includes PC software, which is particularly a problem for Q3 08 as I don't think the 15% increase included PC software.

Anyway I'll try to make a rough estimate of UK software excluding PC software for the rest of the year since H1 by applying the same percentage of PC software to the total as occurred in H1 (12.46%). Obviously the actual percentage won't be the same, but should be in the ballpark.

Estimated console software unit sales (excluding PC) through week 46 2008:

Japan: 54.2m
UK: 50.0m

It's far from a perfect estimate, so should be viewed with caution, but probably gives a reasonable ballpark figure. I'm sure we'll get "official" figures come January.

this is only consoles no handhelds?

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

Gaming really is dying in Japan...

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Conservatives:  Pushing for a small enough government to be a guest in your living room, or even better - your uterus.

UK has pretty much obliterated Japan's importance in this gen

If you look at it like this to win the gen you would need to have US and UK to win. If you had US and Japan and the competitior had 2nd in US and 1st in UK would most likely be enough to win.

Point being to win this gen you need either UK or US. Which before it would of been you needed Japan.

Well, according to some rough estimates Japan is still ahead for the year in software units (excluding PC), it's just that UK market is more heavily tilted to Q4. Also, UK only made up 29% of software unit sales in Western Europe during 2007, so Europe as a whole is really key rather than the UK alone.

This includes PC:

Not a 100% fair comparison considering Japanese holiday season hasn't even started yet. 1.7 million in one week is only the build up to the holiday season, as you can see from the hardware sales most Japanese gamers haven't started holiday shopping.

Bet - "PES 2009 (PS3) will sell (closer to) 150k first week in Japan" - Pooperscopper
"It will sell closer to 125k" - Me I agree.
ME = OWNED :(

End of '09 Predictions:

Wii: 78 million
X360: 35 million
PS3: 27 million

So total software sales in the UK were around 3 million the week Call of Duty World at War launched. Can we use this to narrow down the range for the first week sales of Call of Duty? Charttrack reported Call of Duty, World of Warcraft and Guitar Hero World Tour accounted for 25% of total sales in that week, so about 760k in total. So if we can estimate the amounts for World of Warcraft and Guitar Hero we know how many copies Call of Duty sold.

For PC, Chart-Track counts stuff like Microsoft Word as software, no?
