Forums - Sony - So Sony won't have netflix, big deal - sony doesn't need netflix anyway

Ug, anyway back again ^^;

I mean what a hack as in this. To me, the offerings of netflix was just another way to promote console sales, to "GIVE THE FANS WHAT THEY'VE BEEN ASKING FOR!!! YAAAAY!!!" Well, apparently not, it's only to give the fans (who already pay), what they've been asking for >_>;;; To me, netflix was a huge draw on some of that casual crowd that Blu-ray has been tempting other non-gamers.

People like me, who already weren't willing to pay for live, now have to pay for it to access yet another feature you have to pay for... seriously? It doesn't seem like much of a "feature" at this point. From the sounds people were making, Microsoft walked slowly over searing coals, and broken glass to "pull some strings" with Netflix to get it's loyal fanbase what they deserve... rubbish... Another live scam if you ask me -_-;

I won't pay for live. It's just not worth it to me. This netflix "service" doesn't exist to the likes of me :/ I think it's awesome for those of you with gold accounts, but man, so not the move I thought it was on they're part. I've been Bamboozled!!!

How are they not giving the fans what they're asking for?

Are you upset you have to pay for features?  I'm not sure if you realize this or not but Microsoft and Netflix are both businesses and want to make money.

I would completely agree with you *if* you only got the streaming, but you get everything Netflix offers you along with the streaming.

They are two different services that work together.

If you want the benefit of both services, you have to pay for both services.  It's just as simple as that.  I hate to keep going back to the MMO example, but it's about the best example out there.

Are WoW and your internet two completely different services?  Yes.

Do they just happen to work together?  Yes.

Would you expect to get to play WoW (or whatever MMO) because you pay for internet?  Of course not.

Should you expect to get the full Netflix for free because you pay for Live?  Of course not.

Should you expect to get the full Live service because you subscribe to Netflix?  Of course not.

Do you get mad because you have a DVD player and you have to pay for those pesky DVD's to use the DVD player?

And yes, they could have done it so you can use Netflix with Silver but what benefit is that to Microsoft?  (Most) people are not going to buy a 360 for the Netlifx service, (most) people are going to subscribe to Gold to get the Netflix service.

And I know Jordahn, I'm disagreeing with someone and disrespecting their opinion by doing so, whatever that means, but tough.    Arguing with someone, flat out telling them they are wrong or listing point by point why their idea or genius notion makes no sense is not trolling. It's the internet, not everyone is going to agree with everything you say and people are in fact going to argue with you.  It's just a basic fact of the internet.  If you can't handle that, what are you doing on the internet?

@Twesterm

I just don't like that you can log on with the internet (that you already pay for), on a PC, and just use your service as is, no additional charge :P It's like netflix said, y'know, your already paying for our service, this is something additional for you guys :) It's a service that they didn't have to provide, but did, at they're expense. And that's friggin cool. Not because I'm a cheapass, but because they said hmmm, how could we be better, and not rape them in the face.

The whole netflix thing just sounded to me like an additional reason to pick up a 360, but now it's not... it's an additional reason to pick up live... which like I mentioned I wasn't interested in :x It doesn't feel like microsoft went out of it's way for it's fanbase, more like another way to get live customers, and still make a buck out of it :x

I just don't approve of the business model. Netflix should be a 360 thing, not a live thing. Gold or silver shouldn't matter. As I mentioned I thought it was a swift move to take some of the movie goers away from the potential purchase of a blu-ray device ala PS3. But if you've got Netflix brandished all over your "New Xbox Experience", yet it has nothing to do with the Xbox at all, then it's misleading.

It just feels like buying gold in wow :x

Does anyone even pay legit money to be able to download and watch movies these days??

Late, but you cannot be serious.

I'll say their business plan worked on me.  After Netflix was added I canceled my blockbuster online account, subscribed to Netflix , and bought a 12 mo live subscription.  Before I'd only buy live on months when a game demanded it.   I don’t regret any of these decisions, because I believe the service is worth it (hopefully they’ll add more new releases).   I can understand why some wouldn’t want to pay for either Netflix or Live, but at the end of the day, it’s your choice.

Remember the episode of the Simpsons where they get a elephant?

Its exactly the same situation where Homer opens the door and tells the kids to go a way the eight time despite they make it clear they'll PAY HIM to see the elephant.

360 owners- Can we have Columbia picture films? Well give you money!

SONY- NO *slams door*

PS3- Can we have movies? Well give you money!

SONY- FOR THE TENTH TIME NO! *Slam*

 This gives me an idea...

*hammers down sign saying "go away"*

@Ender, but that's just it, its your choice of paying for something you might not use :/

My friend already has a netflix account, how badass would it be to pick up a 360, hook it up to our tv, and just use his account info to get friggin netflix! It would have been awesome, but now we have to pay for live >_>; which no one in the house really wants. So now, were just back to the good ol, hook the PC up to the TV, and watch netflix, without paying for live.

It's not win win for live users, they still need to pick up a netflix account.

It's not win win for Netflix users, they still need to purchase live.

It's only win win if you've already got both >_> and that's kinda lame.

@ ChronotriggerJM

I don't want to put words in your mouth, but it seems you are mad because you have to pay for a value added service (that's great IMO). That business, and that's life.

I hope my tone doesn't sound rude, but it sounds a little like sour grapes on your part.

@Ender

Nonsense ^^ I just think live blows :P I'm not going to pay for it.

I skim through my gaming magazines, and see an add for Netflix, featuring one of they're new avatars and it says, "Be a part of the new Xbox Experience!". This doesn't have anything to do with the 360 at all! It ties directly to gold... wtf?

Before all this went down, there were rumors circulating that you could pay like 8 bucks to netflix, and they'd send you this disc, you'd put this disc in, and you could use netflix on your PS3 or 360. That was the rumor anyways. 1 small payment, then boom, you could use netflix via console. That totally seemed worth it :) But what Microsoft has implemented just screams of suck.

All gold really lets you do, is play with people online, and believe it or not, there's a ton of people who A.) Aren't willing to do that, and B.) Don't give two shits about playing online... Well Microsoft doesn't seem to give a rats ass >_> If you want netflix on your 360, you pay for a service you won't use. It's a selfishly implemented service on they're end. And it reeks of greed.

So you're mad because the rumors were wrong? The moment MS announced the plan they noted you needed the gold plan. Honestly, I think your anger about Live Gold is kind of clouding this issue.

In fact, I'm going to drop out of this. I don't think this is gonna go anywhere.

Oh I'm not mad at all :P I could care less ^^

I just don't follow 360 news really :P So when I hear a 360 fanatic touting, YEAH WELL WE'VE GOT NETFLIX BEEOTCH, I go wow that's cool ^^ I'm disappointed the PS3 didn't get it ^^ But I'm happy for you guys! That rocks :) I support Netflix in full.

I DON'T however, support paying for Gold. This is where my snags come from :P I thought Netflix was a 360 deal, not a gold deal. That's it ^^
