but why couldnt silver accounts just pay for the netflix subscribtion?

Well then why can't Silver accounts do everything that Gold accounts can?

Then MS wouldn't get anything out of it.

I didn't say that they weren't both in it to scratch each others backs.

So Chrono had a point to begin with. Come on, you're a mod. Keeping an objective POV he had a legit point.

All mods are absolutely allowed to have and express opinions. We have to follow the rules just like everyone else when expressing those opinions, but we're still allowed to have opinions nonetheless. When we're actually moderating we have to be objective, but otherwise we can think whatever we feel like.

He made his point, I made mine. Don't take everything so personally.

Never did. I fact I did say in my last post...

"maybe he was generalizing too much, but I did say 'some of those with the Silver account' which was NOT referring to all those who had a Silver account."

I just felt that being more objective would have seen that it's not everyone's proirity/preference to have a Gold account for whatever reason. That's why I felt Chrono was legit. Honestly, nothing personal.

EDIT: This is my last post for the night  Have a good one.

And it's my point that if you don't want a Gold account for whatever reason, then you just don't get the NXE + Netflix deal.

That isn't Microsoft's or Netflix's problem, it's yours.  You can't blame MS or Netflix for wanting something in return for a service.

^I read all the posts pertaining to this argument not once, twice, but three times to understand what the hell this argument is about.

To me I don't think Chrono even had a legit point, it's your choice to pay for both, just because I have Gold doesn't mean I have to get netflix. Yes I glanced at netflix, and i considered it for a good 1 minute before saying no I don't need it.

Sure it may seem like a somewhat asshole of a move from Microsoft to require Gold for Netflix, but if you don't have gold, why are you even online? Downloading a demo takes an hour at most, downloading a XBL arcade game takes 10-20 minutes. If you can't play your games online why would you take the time to hook your 360 to a router especially when it's wired.

When we pay for our Live Gold subscriptions I know it's because I can message my buddies on live, sure Silver accounts can also do the same messaging, but the question is why would they message people on Live when they have a silver account and can't even play with them. Who the hell enjoys messaging on a text pad to say how you doing without putting something on the end like "wanna play so and so." (besides me I like to give random hihi's to vgc members) Microsoft could've arrived at a similar conclusion, if you don't have Gold you probably aren't online with your box enough that Netflix should matter.

Also Microsoft spent time and money organizing this deal for their NXE, do they not deserve to gain some money from their work? I don't know if the 360 comes with Flash codecs, but what if it didn't, let's say MS had to create a flash codec to run on 360. Should that work be free?

I didn't read the all thread, so maybe it already has been said...

Netflix is a US only service anyway, so I guess I prefer sony build his own thing and is able to bring it outside of the US too.

They will know Helgan belongs to Helghasts

Generally it's because wit NEtflix you can stream from a choice of over 12,000 films. Does PSN have that??

It's the quantity available for like 9$/month.

Sony's needed it's own marketplace for god knows how long, hell they only create movies, music, television, and games. What I eventually see happening, is a full robust Sony store, and maybe eventually down the line they'll have they're own "subscription fee" for the movies section of they're store. It will include access to all the music, movies, and rentable games, complete with bucketloads of DRM :P But you know what, it would be about time.

The problem with this business model is the infrastructure cost. At this stage, it would probably be more cost effective for Sony to approach BlockBuster and try to strike up an agreement. Of course, the strong BlockBuster brand name and the cost savings that Sony could realize would all make perfect business sense, which is why I'm almost certain Sony will do none of those things, and instead sink hundreds of millions into their own proprietary thing, like they already did with their eReader and eBook store to combat Amazon and Kindle.

Ug, anyway back again ^^;

I mean what a hack as in this. To me, the offerings of netflix was just another way to promote console sales, to "GIVE THE FANS WHAT THEY'VE BEEN ASKING FOR!!! YAAAAY!!!" Well, apparently not, it's only to give the fans (who already pay), what they've been asking for >_>;;; To me, netflix was a huge draw on some of that casual crowd that Blu-ray has been tempting other non-gamers.

People like me, who already weren't willing to pay for live, now have to pay for it to access yet another feature you have to pay for... seriously? It doesn't seem like much of a "feature" at this point. From the sounds people were making, Microsoft walked slowly over searing coals, and broken glass to "pull some strings" with Netflix to get it's loyal fanbase what they deserve... rubbish... Another live scam if you ask me -_-;

I won't pay for live. It's just not worth it to me. This netflix "service" doesn't exist to the likes of me :/ I think it's awesome for those of you with gold accounts, but man, so not the move I thought it was on they're part. I've been Bamboozled!!!

i am sorry you guys wont be able to , its a great add on for my 360

@Grham

That goes back to another topic on a different day, but long story short, you shouldn't have to pay for the ability to play with friends >_>;;; That's all a gold subscription lets you do... If your one of the MANY people that's simply not willing to pay to play online, then you can't access this feature. Seriously?

For a while, the new cheap versions of the 360 were tempting me :P But not because of ANY multi-player aspects, I've got my PS3 for that which has free online gaming. No. I wanted it for the JRPG's that it's been getting, you know, the games I'd probably play by myself >_> Then BAM, MS lands Netflix. Holy shit :) icing on the cake if you ask me ^^

Then Microsoft put on it's blue swede shoe, and shoved it up my ass >_>

@Chrono & Jordahn

Well, we knew from it's announcement that NetFlix was going to require Gold. I don't know why they don't allow you to use Silver. Maybe Microsoft is being greedy. Maybe streaming NetFlix uses bandwidth off their network. I don't see why it should, but maybe it does. Maybe as part of the deal, Microsoft is paying NetFlix royalties. It would be nice if it only required Silver, but it doesn't.

You can argue that it goes against your philosophy for how you think things should be priced, but in the end they're just offering a service. If you don't wish to pay for it, you don't get that service. Simple as that. Some people will and do not mind paying for that service. For us, it's fantastic.

It's like taking a toll-road. It doesn't seem fair that you have to pay just to take a road. Why take that road if there are others that you can drive on for free? Because it will be faster. You have the option to take that toll-road. If you want the convenience and don't mind paying, then you take the toll. If you don't mind driving a bit further and stopping at a few lights then you don't.

Also, Twesterm's response was not at all attacking anyone. Don't be so sensitive.

"Don't want to try Live? That's your own problem" != "all those who don't are making a mistake"

"Don't want to try Live? That's your own problem" == "Don't want to pay for it? Don't pay for it"
