What I eventually see happening, is a full robust Sony store, and maybe eventually down the line they'll have they're own "subscription fee" for the movies section of they're store. It will include access to all the music, movies, and rentable games, complete with bucketloads of DRM :P But you know what, it would be about time. |
The problem with this business model is the infrastructure cost. At this stage, it would probably be more cost effective for Sony to approach BlockBuster and try to strike up an agreement. Of course, the strong BlockBuster brand name and the cost savings that Sony could realize would all make perfect business sense, which is why I'm almost certain Sony will do none of those things, and instead sink hundreds of millions into their own proprietary thing, like they already did with their eReader and eBook store to combat Amazon and Kindle.
