Conclusion
While you certainly can't go wrong with any of the consoles, you can certainly go right with the Microsoft Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 is easily the best all-around console on the market. It offers something for everyone with the largest game library amongst the three consoles, despite the technical inferiority to the Playstation 3, games look the best on it, Xbox Live is the best online console-gaming service, Microsoft has just put out another Xbox 360-exclusive Holiday blockbuster game in Gears of War 2 and in three months Halo Wars comes out.
This isn't to say that the Playstation 3 won't continue to make-up ground on the Xbox 360, but as of right now and in the immediate future, the Xbox 360 should be the console of choice for casual and hardcore gamers.
The Wii will never (and was never meant to) directly compete with the Playstation 3 or Xbox 360. It is a very fun console and there are some fantastic games out for it, but no serious gamer would be completely satisfied with it as their sole console. The only exception is for gamers under the age of 10, the Wii will be a more desirable choice because less "graphic" content exists on the Wii and younger gamers will be satisfied with the child-friendly cartoon Mario games.
