Forums - Gaming - Multi-Disc Final Fantasy XIII On 360 Looking Likely

As we know from the whole Rage debacle, MS's licensing fees increase with each extra disc used for a game. Thus far, only two third party games that I know of have used two discs (the Last Remnant, soon Rage), and only games published by Microsoft have used more than two (Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon).

Lost odyssey required four discs. Can we really expect FFXIII to require any less? How will SE get around the licensing issue? Will they pay the extra fees, fees that were apparently so hefty they forced John Carmack to rework parts of Rage? Will they alter the game, much like Rage? Will they work out some sort of deal with MS?

I wonder what will happen. I know at E3 they claimed that they hadn't yet begun developing the 360 version of the game, and that they weren't planning to start until the ps3 version is finished, so at this point they may have little idea themselves of what they'll have to do to get the game running on the 360, until they actually get down and start doing it.

If Hironobu Sakaguchi can put Lost Odyssey on 4(which is the best rpg imo this generation), then all of Square Enix should be able to put FFXIII on 4.

We don't know that, either.

From the words of Carmack himself:

A video interview, with an in-depth discussion at the very beginning on Microsoft's licensing practices.

I've seen that. However, a month or so later, Tim Willits contradicted that (see above). So we don't really know that it was anything other than a miscommunication and increased production costs.

"So can you install just a single disc at a time?"

I don't know if you were being sarcastic, but this would be another option if true depending on the developer.

EDIT: browser problems

Heh, nope, actually wanted to know.  ^^

Even though now I have more space than I know what to do with I'm still one of those crazy insane people that likes to use as little space as possible.

Sorry if this was actually answered (I did quickly look) but no, you don't need to install all the discs. Copying a game to the HDD is just like cloning a disc on pc then mounting it to a virtual drive (which is probably exactly how it works with the NXE).

Yes, I have tested this personally with Blue Dragon.

This thread is still going? wtf...? >_>

We like to remind the PS3 fanboys the result of grasping at straws...

^LOL

Why was it even created????????????????????

Everyone already knew the day it was announced that the 360 version would likely be 4 discs. Certainly noone could have thought 1 disc surely????????? Is anyone that nieve??????????

So 360 fans will have to spend 30 seconds swapping a disc at some point /or/ they can do a hard drive install.  Whereas PS3 fans will have a required 12 minute hard drive install.

I'd take the option to disc swap or hard drive install over the forced hard drive install.

Remember when PS3 fans joked about how 360 fans would have to spend 30 seconds swapping discs for MGS 4 and then they had to wait 5 minutes between chapters while MGS4 installed?  That was hilarious.

I never thought of that.  That's actually pretty amazing.
