Forums - Gaming - A Nintendo fanboy confession

Do you understand that X360 is slashing prices like theres no tomorrow, just so that people like you , who think about every dollar spent, feel that its the best choice. Go buy a PS3, and your economic gaming goes down the shitter. now if you value HD graphics in a game more than Motion control(which i dont, anyways, cause i see better graphics on my PC), you shouldve decided earlier that you were gonna ditch Ninty for MS or Sony this gen, and saved yourself all the pain.

Dude I'm a nintendo fan boy I'm never ditching em and I stood strong with them during the N64 and GC days and its payed off cos now their owning

@ Kantor: Man if thats true I've only just finished the entree. I've been playing the 360 since it first came out at my mates place but on a standard def TV and never thought it was overly impressive, but now that I've seen the difference a good HD TV makes to assassins I take your word on what it will do to gears. I mean the level of detail that gets lost on a standard def TV is phenominal to say the least!!! I would agree that in standard def MP3 looks almost as good as any 360/ps3 game but now Im scared of going back to play MP3 again because of the disapointment I'm going to feel when I realise the graphics and art I thought were amazing are pretty standard. The difference betwene MP1 and 3 is huge though! and I was all excited about it! The wii is a few steps up from last gen but in comparison to the 360 or ps3 it might as well be said that it has last gen graphics. So I join with every one who used to preach "wii should be hi def" and agree with them fully. Its like going from colour TV back to mono :( a good sound system back to lap top speakers, a lotus exige back to a mazda 2

For me, the HD graphics lost their wow factor once I got used to them. I still have moments when I stop to look at the environment, but most of the time I just get caught up playing the game and don't even notice them.

Funny, I have my 360 for 3 days now and I must say I don't really share your thoughts.

For one I wasn't blown away by the graphics (and yes I play on a HDTV). I liked them, and sure they are better than Wii's, but not enough to warrant the massive "Wii graphics suck" meme that's always around. I'm not that much of a graphics person I guess. I play a lot of DS and love my SNES games still.

Secondly I was playing Mass Effect. Truely awesome game, except for the frigging dual analog shooting. I absolutely hate the irresponsiveness. It really kinda ruins the experience after RE4Wii and Metroid 3.

I think Wii is worth $250. And masses of people think that. That's the only thing that matters. Whether Wii is better/worse than 360 or PS3 is up to anyone personally. I love the Wii for many reasons (Virtual Console is an important one) and I don't think my newly aqcuired 360 will change that (both have tremendous competition from the DS though).

I'll use my 360 for some of my favorite franchises, like RE5, Final Fantasy and Beyond Good and Evil, but Wii can give me lightgun shooters, point & click and snowboarding on a Balance Board. For me that alone makes the Wii a worthy purchase for every gamer, despite it being more expensive than 360.

Nice to see that not all people consider graphic to be the most important factor with games. I totally agree with you, nice graphic can be a huge plus for a game (for exemple Super Mario Galaxy, which proves that Wii can also deliver graphically), but other factors such as controls, gameplay, structure of the game, the funfactor are totally superior in my opinion.

These factors are where Nintendo shines and always has. In my opinion you cannot find the "nintendomagic" in other games, as simple as that. I also love VC, best thing Nintendo has ever done and my main reason for buying Wii since I´ve (regretfully) sold my NES, SNES, N64.

"but other factors such as controls, gameplay, structure of the game, the funfactor are totally superior in my opinion."

exactly! and the whole marketing of everything is geared towards Nintendo being seen as the system to offer thoes things, but I've realised that the 360 and the ps3 have all thoes things! pluss AWESOME graphics. Its been like this brain washing kinda thing, like how sony and ms wanted us all to believe graphics are all that matters and we rebelled against it and baught a wii for the motion controles and the 'fun' and then every one forgot the 360 was fun because of its high price point. but now its cheaper then the wii and it would be good for people to turn around now and see that there are amazing games on this console. Games that are just as amazing as nintendos AAA titles if not more amazing and for a significantly cheaper price. (in AUS that is, I really dont know what prices are like in other countries)

But what I mean with gameplay and control are what´s inside the games themselves, I wasn´t really talking about the Wiicontrols (even though they working very well). In my opinion you don´t get gameplay as perfect and balanced as in games like Mario Galaxy, Zeldagames, Super Metroid etc. I have not played any other games that compare to Nintendo´s best, that´s what I meant with "nintendomagic", they´re like pixar of the videogamingworld. Always (almost) delivering great games that on the surface seems childish but really are aimed at everyone.

It's certanly good to see someone who's not afraid to post their opinion. You might be safe posting this in the Nintendo section too. I've said some negative things about Nintendo products and I got away cleanly, but the only thing hampering you might be your post count.

It's the economy, stupid.

Just do the math: Why should Nintendo lower the price for its console if they sell more than they can produce? Price is not a question of quality, but of supply and demand.

Currently Playing: Skies of Arcadia Legends (GC), Dragon Quest IV (DS)

Last Game beaten: The Rub Rabbits(DS)

People need to remember that the $200 Xbox 360 Arcade is a highly neutered version of the console without the necessary harddrive. Eventually, you're going to want to pony up the dough for a harddrive for the thing, and then you'll realize that it's just cheaper and easier buying the $300 Xbox 360 Pro.

The Wii's value is just fine, and Nintendo's reasons for not dropping the price are sound. After all, if you were selling a product at a set price that sold out month after month, would you suddenly lower the price? Hell no. You're going to reap the rewards of the system.

The original poster complains about cost, but ignores actual problems with the Wii such as the lack of a harddrive or the asinine use of friend codes.

Graphics are not what determines how good a gaming experience you'll have. I had a lot of fun with Left 4 Dead last night, and it's graphics are hardly revolutionary. Hell, they felt downright last-gen after my solid week of playing Bioshock. House of the Dead 2 & 3 have fairly primitive graphics, but that doesn't reduce the sheer amount of fun that's in that game. Eternal Darkness's graphics are clearly dated by today's standards--it was a first-gen GameCube title after all (or a last-gen N64 title if you wish), but it still created the best overall atmospheric experience on the GameCube. In fact, I have yet to play a game where I think the atmosphere rivals Eternal Darkness. Bioshock is close, and the horror element is more visceral, but Eternal Darkness felt a very specific way.

The original post of this thread does little more than advertise what a graphics whore you are. Has motion control taken me deeper into any game? I'd have to say that it greatly improved the experience of Metroid Prime 3 and that it did, actually, take me deeper into Manhunt 2 and No More Heroes. Manhunt 2 was a wonky game overall, and the censorship ruined the fun. But damn if those motions to execute people didn't have a visceral feel to them. There were times I could hardly tell what was going on, but I could FEEL it. THAT was Manhunt 2's most redeeming point, actually.

Haa, yes, you really embaressed me! You are just a dumb fuck, who don't understand the relation between demand and price. It's as simple as that.

Wow, forget my last post in this thread.

Wii games are still cheaper than HD games. So no matter how much the system costs... after you buy a bunch of games you'll be saving money with a Wii. So no, it doesn't cost more than HD gaming. But yes, it is worth more. More people are willing to pay for it.
