Forums - Nintendo - Miyamoto: casual gamers will become core gamers

I think it’s a natural transition. Everyone starts off as a light user but at some point many of them become hardcore gamers. My wife bought Brain Training about three years ago. In More Brain Training, you know how there is the Dr. Mario game? She became absolutely hooked and today she is much better than I am!”

Ive been expecting this for a while now.Nintendo doesnt just want the casuals to keep buying wii___ games. I believe they want these casuals to become core gamers. By this i means fans of nintendo's core franchise.  here is some evidence.

Play on Wii.  introduces new gamers to nintendo frnachises in a way that is quick  and inexpensive. also i believe all the titles are all being handled by skip so its not going to be derpriving the core gamers really. This could mean we wouild be seeing updates to donkey kong, mario tennis ect in the future. nintendo is hoping those who pick up the budget priced pikmin and pikmin 2 will pay ful price for pikmin 3.

Online. nintendo is wayyyyyyy behind in the online department. Reggie has stated thery are working on something but we have no idea what this is. in the meantime nintendo is including tutorials with every wii sold which show how to get the wii online. it will show how to use FC, play against anyone online and download titles from the wii shop channel.

more core like casual games.  the new  casual games announced at their conference do seem a bit more core orientated. beutiful ocean 2 is a franchise liked by core gamers. spawn smasher( 2D puzzle sidescroller) and Line attack heroes ( action adventure i think) were the most casual looking games from their 2009 conference (excluding things that werent really games like those language titles) and both look more like bridge titles than casual

getting the DS 'casually core' crowd onto wii. the DS install base contains gamers of all types. Nintendo is bringing DS frnachises onto wii in a hope that these 'casually core' will amke the jump. we already have sequels to trace memory and lostwinds confirmed as wii exclusives.

Miyamoto also commented on the ongoing discussions between the distinctions of hardcore and casual gamers/games.

“When I hear that kind of discussion, I wonder if there really is such a distinction. There are many hardcore gamers playing with casual games and I believe casual gamers do get into hardcore Nintendo games too. I think one of Nintendo’s missions is to destroy the barrier between the two and I believe Wii Music contributes that.”

all good apart from the wii music part. from the sound of things parts of it are  too simple whereas other parts are too complicated. There doesnt seem much middle ground. wii sports resort would be a much better fit since wii sports was the most 'core' of the wii series. apart from wii chess which is obviously HARCORZ TO THE EXTREME

HOWEVER

there is some evidence that goes againt my argument:

1. nintendo has shown they want games like Madworld, Conduit and GTA. these will ruin the family friendly image of the wii

2. Dynamic Slash contains lots of blood. It will amke kids go out and buy massive sword to go and kill Norse Giants

3. Trestres and reliably informed me that nintendo isnt releasing any wii games until 2010. that must everything ive written up until now is wrong

nintendo fanboy, but the good kind
