The Orignal $599.00 60gb had Backwards compatibilty using Ps2 chip
The 80gb $499.00 hd Backwards compatibilty using Software
Now the recently upgrade 80gb has no BC $399.00

It is just the 40 GB with an 80 GB HDD and a DS3. Unless you are talking about the Motorstorm/MGS4 80 GB which had software+hardware backwards compatibility, flash card readers, and SACD support.
