Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Reggie: Third parties don't "get" the Wii, more

Well, the Wii will follow the same path as the DS. The support could double or triple in the 3rd or 4th years. But I don't like making excuses or cockamamie theories.

If you are a big developer/publisher, work with who you want. If you are a smaller dev and only do HD games, see you at the welfare line.

Yes, Nintendo shouldn't be encouraging third party to release ports of older games to make a quick buck. Neither release new games that are obviously rehashes. But hey, at least they are giving 3rd parties a WHOLE year to release games. No more excuses.

Bets with Conegamer:

Pandora's Tower will have an opening week of less than 37k in Japan. (Won!)
Pandora's Tower will sell less than 100k lifetime in Japan.
Stakes: 1 week of avatar control for each one.

Well, what he says is true. Most 3rd party devs only released quick cash ins or ports so far. Even with the huge hole that's going to be from Nov 2008 until 2010 without Nintendo games, they still not care about the Wii. Some are changing though.

so whats up with nintendo porting lots of GC games to wii and not making many of their own games?

seems they are doing the same

He complains about that as well. Seems to think those are getting in the way of making new games.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

They next phase in Wii adoption is probably just re-releasing old software on the Wii.

Look at Okami, Dead Rising, Mario Kart etc.

Tease.

@Lord: Oh you are right. Those games just appear out of nowhere! Who knew it. I'll never underestimate Nintendo's magic again. Hell, all those credits at the end of RE4 Wii Edition were just random names, not people who actually worked on it.

Oh wait!!

We're already seeing improvement, really. The Wii versions of games like Sonic Unleashed and Shaun White are pulling in stronger reviews than their HD counterparts, and CoD:WAW is arguably better than the PS360 versions due to the control scheme. Now we just need something more than half-arsed exclusive efforts like Castlevania Judgment, and we'll be set.

EDIT: Also just saw that IGN reviewed Skate It really well, so add another to the pile.

"'Casual games' are something the 'Game Industry' invented to explain away the Wii success instead of actually listening or looking at what Nintendo did. There is no 'casual strategy' from Nintendo. 'Accessible strategy', yes, but ‘casual gamers’ is just the 'Game Industry''s polite way of saying what they feel: 'retarded gamers'."

They're doing a remake of an old Mario Kart game? Which one?

mario kart on wii is not re-release like dead rising or okami, okami is the same game on PS2 and the wii except for control diffirences, dead rising looks like inferior version of the 360 game, but mario kart improved on mario kart double dash in so many ways, there is online, new items, wii wheel etc

Firstly, was that a list of only those who worked on that version, or all the versions?

Even if it was all, that's not proof those were teams pulled from hardcore development, and it sure as hell is not proof Nintendo is pulling teams away to make these.
