Every path of logical thought defies this childish conclusion my brain cannot seem to escape from coming to. It's like watching an old lady fall over and having to suppress your laughter. Am I such a narrow-minded fan-boy?
Truth is, I can't feel any love for a Microsoft console. Not in a hateful, biased way but in a genuine, emotional way. I know all console manufacturers care about nought but money, so this is a ridiculous notion, right? But I just can't feel it. I can't, damn it!
Dimiss this as a mindless, meaningless rant and hurl your insults against me! But wait! Why do I feel this way? Can't wee examine this mindset of mine in an intelligent fashion? Why do I hate this company? The main reason is that I just don't care about the games that have given their consoles "worth" in the eyes of the majority of it's owners. I played Halo for a few hours and found it desperately boring. My flatmate raved about Gears of War, but I found it repulsively ugly, and unfathomably dull. Am I saying that these titles are bad games? No. Millions of people disagree with me, so I accept that my perception is down to subjective opinions. Objectively, these games are highly regarded, but to me they strike no chord, and the same is true for Microsoft's consoles. I may well buy a 360 because there are a few games I'd like to play, but these tend to be games that are pretty much ignored by the rest of the X-box community. I like these games because they happen to be on the 360, not because they characterize it.
Consoles end up with a unique character, not because of the money grabbing corporations behind them, but because of the games that make them, and the vision of the hardworking and talented artists behind those games. I have every right to hate a console, just as I have every right to love one, not because the console is better or worse than it's competitors, but because it is represented by something that is closer or further away from my personal tastes.
Does that make me a fanboy? Yeah, I guess it does. Sorry for not liking every type of game ever made. At least I'm a fanboy who has sat down, evaluated the reasons behind my emotional response and excepted it in a dignified fashion. I disagree with you if you say Microsoft is better than Nintendo, but I won't hold it against you and I won't call you an idiot. It's just a matter of opinion.
