People really seem to forget these important factors when they do this ****
1. People buy what their friends have, install base advantages also help you sell more consoles.
2. The PS3 has to MATCH and then EXCEED the 360s sales. So any increase is offset by whatever the 360 is outselling the PS3 by at the time.
3. The important gap is not what it is right now, but the gap when they can do their price-cut etc to try to turn things around.
4. Sony still has to make a profit on the PS3. Theres no point in beating the 360 if in the end it would have been more profitable to sit the generation out.
5. The games which really sell systems can be counted on one hand. Its pretty much BS to say random exclusive X is going to sell consoles.
So really, we're not talking about a 5 million gap. We're more likely talking about something like a 6.5-7.5 million gap and before they can think of a price cut, the generation is over 9 months older since the PS3 started losing ground since the start of Q3 this year. If there were a maximum of 4 years left in the generation then, its gone down to about 3 and 1/4 years at most and most likely between 1 and a half to 2 and a half years for the PS3 to make any apreciable impression in this "race".
