The Gamestop story on NPD sales notes that the NPD raw data showed that Rock Revolution sold two (2) copies on Wii in October.

Of course, this was not possible because the game was not even released on Wii until November 11.

What this tells me is that the models may have some accuracy issues (imagine that).

Some store released Rock Revolution a few days ahead of time I would suppose is a logical reason for this.



GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

I am not trying to cherry pick. This is the first time that I have ever found anything which actually pointed out that the NPD's numbers have their own problems.

It is all in the algorithms. If you make the wrong calculations, then you get the wrong results. Somehow, without data, it came up with 2 sales of a game for the Wii. Very interesting.

of course it's not perfect, nobody believes it is because for it to be perfect it would have to have 100% market coverage. It probably wasn't even NPD's mistake, i'm sure it was a retailer that reported a wii version sold when it was really another version. This isn't going to change anyone mind about NPD, you would need to find something like shipped numbers of a game are lower than the game sales or something like that.

I think it's both awesome and sad how people feel the need to come in here and make excuses when it's not even really a big deal aside from the obvious proof of what you should already know -- that NPD can make mistakes too.

If, as johnsobas said, NPD was misinformed, NPD still made the mistake of not doing a simple fact-check.
