Forums - Microsoft - XBox360 Elite? What's the point?

When the Elite was first released it had more value than the Pro since it had a 120GB HDD vs a 20GB and it was the only model with an HDMI output.

What is the point of MS continuing with the XBox 360 Elite?  It costs $100 more than a Pro and the only differences I can see are that it's black, has a 60GB larger HDD and comes with an HDMI cable.  The colour is personal choice and an HDMI cable can be purchased for under $10-$20 if you avoid "namebrands".  Is the larger HDD really worth the extra $80-$90 more?  Unless you need the space right away I would wait a year or two and MS will probably release a 250GB HDD for the cost of the 120GB now (although that still is overpriced).  Am I missing some additional differences or is MS just doing a cash grab on unknowing customers and those who value the elite status of the black console?

Twice the hard drive space, the HDMI output comes with it, black color preferance, and you have a choice of the bundle with two games (Lego Indiana and Kung Fu Panda). Man, Microsoft makes some shitty bundles. Good god (LOL).

The sexy black color.

Plus, it's called "elite" so I can play my mindless drivel shooting games and steel feel "elitist". Win-win.

The color makes a huge difference... Apple sells a macbook for 200$ more than one of their macbook. The only difference: the more expansive is black...

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

I agree sith you Blappo. I think there is no point to the Elite anymore as well. Yes, it has 60 GB more in space but what are people using there X360's HDD's for. I've had a 20 GB system for about 2 years and still have over 10 GB of space and I have downloaded demos, games and other DLC. I think your best point is the HDMI, the Elite was elite when it was the only SKU that had HDMI now all of them do. @S.T.A.G.E, so what if it comes with an HDMI cable in box as cheap as HDMI cables are I could pick one up on the cheap.

On the color black: If Microsoft and other companies know the color sells more why not release the 360 in black to begin with?

Good post, Blappo

Um....it would still add up dude. An HDMI cable costs $49.99. The 120 GB HD costs $150. Buying the elite you essentially save yourself $100 upgrading from the premium Xbox 360. The Elite is a great deal and still has plenty of relevance. To upgrade to the same quality materials the Elite has from the premium it would cost $199.99 plus tax. Plus with the Elite you get the console and controller in black.

lol. I bought two rather robust HDMI cables (different colors too) for $5 each. So the best you can claim is you save $55 on a 60 GB upgrade.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

No.

And I believe that the Elite still exists because it is the name of a 360 SKU.

There's Arcade, Pro and Elite.

Simple.
